We decided to go on this boat trip with our two year old son. We truly enjoyed it. This was my son’s first time on a boat and he loved it. The boat guide was very knowledgeable about the area and very funny. He seemed to really enjoy his job. It was a beautiful tour and we even got to see some seals (phoques).

On a handful of days each year, and presumably when the tides allow it, the Charcot III does a run out into the bay and then across to Le Crotoy to enable the passengers to take the narrow-guage railway back around the bay to St Valery. Last week was one of those occasions, with a very high tide at exactly the right time of day. 13Euros for the boat trip, which lasted just over an hour, seemed very reasonable. We saw half a dozen seals and the boat was stopped on each occasion to allow them to approach and us to look. The commentary was entirely in French, but with a bit of an understanding, it wasn't difficult to pick up on what was being said.

We had a lovely trip in the evening sunshine to Le Hourdel and back from the port at St Valery, lots of entertaining information from Le Capitain on the tides, the buildings and the wildlife of he Baie de Somme. The trip was very child-friendly, the skipper invited children into the cabin to steer and sound the whistle, which caused a lot of amusement. We were fortunate enough to see several seals whose curiosity drew them quite close to the boat. A very pleasant outing.

After the disappointment of the train was thrilled that the boat was wheelchair accessible. Saw many different sea birds and the seal several times. Good views of the town from the water. Commentary is in French but if you understand a few words then at least you know to look left or right. Worth the trip and reasonable cost in comparison to such trips in the UK
