You have to pedal and get up a sweat! Great fun. Lasts about 2 hours - 16km in all. The way out is quite uphill but that means it is downhill on the way back. They can pop a child seat on for the younger kids. You need to book - there was a good fluent English chap to sort... More

The start of this trip was promising with a nice view from the bridge and of the old town, but after this it's only peddling through some thick greenery which stops the travellers from seeing the French countryside. An exciting trip for the children.

If you are in the area the Velo Rail is well worth a visit and very good value for money. We went with our two girls aged 10 and 16 and they both really enjoyed it. The chap running the rail is great, very accommodating ( we cancelled once without a problem, they then cancelled due to the weather, third... More

Located close to the town of Chauvigny, which is worth a visit itself, there are many Velorail across France this one being just under 9 Kms each way. Basically peddle cart that runs on an existing old railway track - now disused you'll be glad to know! Very friendly and informative staff, in English which was helpful. We did book... More

This is a great outdoor activity for families or friends. You're given a small rail car that is powered by cycling. The car has 5 seats, 2 of which have pedals. The car follows 8,7 km of and old railroad, and runs through the forest and right next to historic Chauvigny. You have spectacular views when crossing the several bridges... More

Visited at end of May with our two young children aged 6 & 7. Their legs weren't quite long enough to reach the pedals when sitting on the bikes, but determined to have a go, they still managed to do it (stood up) and thoroughly enjoyed it!! To explain, there are 2 actual cycles and 3 seats so as long... More

We had ridden on the Confolens velorail earlier in the year, enjoyed it immensely, and were back in the Vienne looking for something active to do for an afternoon. You can get details from any local Bureau de Tourisme, or hotel leaflets or of course the interweb (search velorail chauvigny). Ring to book a cart (five-seater - two seats are... More

The Velo rail in Chauvigny is a super attraction, well organised and lots of fun. As a party of 4, you cycle through lovely countryside and past historic architecture and medieval ruins - and opting for the return journey is recommended as it's downhill! Lots of fun and highly recommended!

5 seater bike-powered rail travel. A family of triathletes, what's not to like? 8.7km out, turn the Velorail cars around and return. But you are hampered by the other cars, and are supposed to keep 100m apart, so its well worth nabbing the front car on the way home and seeing how quick you can go!! Good fun and not... More
