A Vital Link to Reviving Judiasm in Rivne

I recently visited this synagogue and would like to add some additional information to the two prior reviewers here on Tripadvisor wrote. First, their comments about the building being visually unremarkable from the outside are correct. Indeed, compared to almost any old bust still existing synagogue even the inside is unremarkable. But that is not the point. What is critical is that there IS, TODAY, a synagogue in Rivne and it is at the core of an effort to revive the Jewish community of Rivne. The Rabbi, who was gracious enough to spend much time with me, has come from Israel with his wife and brood of children to facilitate this revival. Victoria, the woman who heads up the Jewish Community Center (which is in the same building) is also quite gracious and diligent in her efforts to further this cause. A visit to this place, if solely viewed as a "sight seeing trip for the building", could perhaps be disappointing. But a trip to witness the tremendous effort and caring being put into reviving Jewish life in Rivne is extremely rewarding. And I might also mention that the lack of physical beauty the prior reviewers focus on is undoubtedly due to a lack of funds and a higher priority being put on fostering proper Shabbat prayers/celebrations and other Jewish community efforts rather than some lack of aesthetic appreciation by the Rabbi or other members of the Rivne Jewish community. These efforts should be generously supported by any visitor, most especially (in my view) any American visitor whose relatives came to the US from Rivne.
