During our wine tour with Terralta Nature Tours we were taken for a visit to Adega A Buraca. It was fantastic! Christina showed us first through the museum that is on site, sharing stories of being a child on Pico from the farming to the coffee! Following we were lead to a private room where we were offered a wide range of infused liqueurs--all made on site, with local ingredients like pineapple, banana, a local mint, fig, berries and more! We tried 2 different fire waters! Hearing how Christina makes each bottle (by hand) and the history of the operation was interesting and fun! I hope to go back soon and try more ! Don't miss this experience to try something hand crafted and wonderful!

Our visit to A Buraca was a true highlight of our time on the island (Pico). We went for a tasting and sampled their wine as well as fruit-infused liqueurs--all made on site, with local ingredients like fig, fennel, berries, mint, honey and more! The whole experience was very low key --nothing pretentious and nothing that felt like a hard sell. But, in fact, we liked what we tasted so much that we left with bottles of liqueur for ourselves and to bring home as gifts.

If you like good little museum with passionate people or if you like wine/liquor tasting experience or even if you'd like to visit a nice winery/distillery, this place is a must-see.
You can even have a dinner or lunch here, and this local food is really great.
Not trying to go there while visiting the wine landscape would be a mistake.

This place is a definite must when in Pico. Pop round the day before to visit the lovely museum and then talk with chef to choose your typical azorian meal. We had the local cheese and tried the alcatra, which was absolutely fabulous. We also got to taste one of the wines they produce and finished it all off with the homemade liquors. The service was lovely they really made us feel part of the family.

Yes, at the time of writing this, this restaurant is reservation only. I was only staying next door and did so on my last night.
Ana was hosting and she was an absolute delight. Her brother (yes, very much the whole thing is a family affair) was the chef and the food was great.
I started with some wheat bread, from the other side of the island, and some local cheese, 2 types and both awesome, along with 1/2 jar of house tinto. For mains, lightly fried fish with chick peas, boiled potatoes and salad, which was fantastic. then dessert consisted of a honey cake with cream and peach slices, and a fennel liquor, made in-house by the father and punching 48% alcohol.
There was a set up across the table for a mermaid I'd met while scuba diving who stood me up (kidding) but Ana was super awesome and kept me company while telling me about Azorean life and local shenanigans.

We came in today hoping to taste a few of the wines and liqueurs that Adega A Buraca makes, as we've heard them mentioned in the Madalena Wine Museum and elsewhere in Pico.
Christina was our host and did a tasting for us in their beautifully rustic tasting room. She was kind (and very generous with the pours) and provided great explanations of their history, how they makes wines and liqueurs, as well as just answering general questions about wine making in Pico and Pico area in general. Her English was excellent too.
We ended up buying a couple of bottles and would love to come again in the future to try their meals & wine experience.
Highly recommended (though you may want to call in advance), and is a great stop on the way to the Pico airport, as it's less than 10 mins by car from there.
Note -- Cash Only,

Best to make reservations as hours/ tastings are limited. That being said the small museum of farm implements was interesting and fun to look at but wasn’t worth the special trip to see it unless you were going to have a tasting. For 10€ you can get a very generous tasting of 4 wines and any of the liquors. The woman helping was very nice and friendly. She shared the history of the wines as well. This is a cash only establishment.

Unreliable!
Opening hrs 2-6 on Sat afternoon. Not open at 3pm.
Complete waste of journey. Wouldn’t bother if they can’t be bothered.
