The main street of town is full of shops selling local pottery. Prices and quality vary. We browsed through over a dozen shops before making any purchases. The pottery is vibrant with bright designs and ranges from cups and saucers to huge ornamental Saracen heads.

This was a nice day trip for pottery shopping and seeing the stairs. We traveled with our daughter and she enjoyed being out on the stairs shopping for trinkets and eating lots of gelato. We've been twice and still love it.

We stopped for lunch and bought some pottery here. I am not a shopper but my wife enjoyed it and bought some pieces. The meal was quite good at a Tripadvisor recommended restaurant.

Stopped here for a short while and found it fascinating. Take the train ride through the narrow streets it's great. Lovely tea/coffee shops - but beware of finding public loos they don't exist. We went on a Sunday and people watching. There are numerous fab pottery shops to browse so don't hurry through.

We enjoyed a drive to this town. The steps are worthwhile detouring to view. We also stopped into a church.

What is beautiful about Caltagirone is that it's quite close to Catania so it can easily be a one day trip. It's approximately one hour drive and the drive is not too bad. Once you get there, you're not sure what to expect. It's a small town, but then you start to realize that there is a pattern in the... More

If you are traveling in SE Sicily, don't miss seeing Caltagirone, the ceramic capital of Sicily - "The Stairs" are the main attraction but also churches in this lovely little town in the hills west of Siracusa. Wonderful ceramic shops and to the left off the plaza at the bottom of the stairs is what we call in an 'outlet... More
