Steps and steps and more steps!
Aug 2021 • Couples
Worth a visit to the impressive steps, all 142 of them! There are some lovely little ceramic shops, most of which you can see artists working on their wares, are just off the steps on either side.
The view from the top is well worth the 142 steps to the church at the top.
Each of the steps are decorated with a different type of ceramic tile and makes it worth a visit purely for that!

The iconic ceramic staircase
Jun 2021
Nestled on the top of the high hill, Caltagirone is a traditional, typical and ancient Sicilian city.
At first glance it doesn't seem like anything special but, believe me, if you dare to climb all the steps of its beautiful stairs, you will find yourself in front of a fantastic scenery, especially during the cool and bright nights of April.
Each step has a wonderful subject drawn on each tile, marvellous, surprising and so gripping discovering so many Story into draws.
City has plenty of exquisite ceramics shops. Taking a look on them takes half day at least but it worth it.
Beautiful!

Most amazing staircase
Aug 2020
This staircase is just amazing. Seen from the bottom it is like a canvas. At each step you discover new patterns, including a prayer.

Great spot to get wonderful views of the town and to start to explore Caltagirone, very similar to Genova lots of atmospheric narrow carrugi.

142 steps of amazing ceramic art
Dec 2019 • Friends
What a sight to behold! 142 beautiful ceramic encrusted steps, each a masterpiece of its own. Lovely motifs of knights, flowers, dancers, geometric patterns, etc. Turn left somewhere about 30 steps midway and you’ll find a beautiful ceramic wall tucked away from public view. Caltagirone is such a charming little town and I think it deserves at least half a day to explore the streets and galleries with artisans working on their craft. We were enroute to Piazza America and it was a pity that we could only make a brief stop.

An unexpected highlight
Sep 2019
We decided to stop at this town on our way to the Valley of the Temples and we are all so glad we did. It truly is a gem and this staircase the heart of it. The whole town is about ceramics and the shops off the staircase highlight this and more. You could spend hours browsing these ceramics shops who are only too pleased to take you through the manufacture process. It wasn't busy and the whole place had a great vibe. This whole place should be as well known as the baroque towns of the south east. A must.

The staircase is a spectacular example of how art and history commingle in Sicily. It's designed as multiple neighborhood entrances up and down this lovely city.

Very different
Sep 2019
I wouldn't say it's worth a trip specifically to see it and it's a lot of steps to climb but if you want to immerse yourself in the ceramic shops this is the place to go.
