The Kerala Folklore Academy situated at Chirakkal, around 7-8 km from kannur city.This is the best place for get knowledge about traditional performing Arts such as Theyyam and other folklore arts.

While the collection is great, it isn't too easy to absorb the material as they aren't fully explained always. Many artefacts are detailed only in Malayalam, & the use of English is sparse. But extraordinary collection, nevertheless.

This is a nice academy to study Kerala folklore and traditional arts. The academy is located near the lake. There is a folklore library, photographs and museum also. Best place for cultural and art lovers.

Folklore academy is a good place to visit if you are interested in theyyam and other folk items that use to be there in our society long before. Mostly visited by forgein people than local public.
