Despite having grown up coming to El Meron since a was a baby, now that I live abroad I have come to appreciate it even more. This white sand beach stretches for several kilometres so if you are for a walk I can recommend you to walk all the way to the furthest corner where the cliffs behind and enjoy a swim there. The furthest corner is also the most protected one from the currents so mostly the waters there are quite calm like a swimming pool. The water in this beach is clean and it is well kept. You have showers off the sand and several baywatch posts along the beach. In the summer months it can be very busy so go early in the morning. Two things make El Meron something special: the waves and the views. This beach has attracted more and more surfers due to the waves and this means that sometimes some areas of the beach are restricted for swimmers, but if you like surfing this is a great place to enjoy your hobby. When it comes to the views, El Meron has views that are secons to none, in a crisp and clear day you can strecht your view across the green hills behind all the way to the rocky or snowy tops of Picos de Europa. It is simply breathtaking.

Several kilometers of beautiful beaches, and we chose this one as it was the larger of the beaches and we had stopped in town for the afternoon. The water was warm, the sand is very clean, fine, easy to talk along and the beach has toilets, showers, These are the beaches in the area: Playa El Meron, Playa El Rosal / Tostadero, Playa La Gerra, Playa de Oyambre. This was a very relaxing pleasant stop along our journey where we enjoyed lunch at a neat restaurant, close to the water off the main road in town, before we drove onto our next destination. Very relaxing.

Visited as part of a drive around the region and found this gem of a beach, along the road from San Vicente de la Barquera which is a place worth a visit for the castle and church as well as super restaurants.

Looking out from our hotel balcony, we saw about 50 surfers in the sea,a brilliant sight, the beach itself is made of soft sand

Beautiful, long, wide beach. Ideal for learning to surf. Very clean. Can get a little busy at the car park end, but it is huge so it doesn’t matter. Parking in the big lot at €2 all day a bargain! Can take a while to get out of the area at peak time due to volume of people, but just avoid leaving until later. :)

We were driving by in the off-season and stopped to take a walk. We had the whole beach to ourselves! Windy, but nice. I'm sure it gets crowded in summer. Would like to come back one day.
