RSPB Loch Garten Osprey Centre sits amidst the stunning Caledonian...

RSPB Loch Garten Osprey Centre sits amidst the stunning Caledonian pineforest, just a short walk from the shores of beautiful Loch Garten. The centre is open every day from April 1 to the first weekend in September, though the rest of the reserve is open all year round. It opens at 10am till 6.00pm, and last entry is at 5.00pm. There is a viewing area in the centre, with binoculars and telescopes to view the ospreys and other wildlife, plus live hi-definition CCTV pictures to give really good close up views of the birds on the nest. Red squirrels can often be seen on our feeders and a large array of small birds visit too. There are always knowledgeable and friendly staff and volunteers on hand to help you make the most of your visit and presentations on the previous year's osprey season are also given. There are activities and games for children both in the centre and on the walk up from the car park. The Osprey Centre shop stocks binoculars and telescopes, gifts, toys, cards, hot and cold drinks, ice creams and snacks. There are picnic benches and garden benches outside if the weather allows! Two beautiful woodland walks take you through magnificent pine forest to tranquil Loch Garten and Loch Mallachie - one accessed from the Osprey Centre car park and the other from the nearby Loch Mallachie car park.

Our first visit to the RSPB reserve and we were really impressed. Lots of knowledgeable staff and volunteers on hand to talk about the nesting ospreys and the other wildlife on the reserve. Really well set out with scopes and binoculars all set up to use.

Fascinating place and got to see Ospreys, red squirrels and woodpeckers to name but a few. This is very well set up for children and my son enjoyed the activities and boxes that had been setup. Perhaps for hardcore birders this was all a little basic but I personally saw everything I had come to see and was a really... More

We had an hour to kill while wife was on gin tour nearby so took the kids here. The staff are great and they have telescopes trained on the osprey nest and CCTV of them on big tvs. We were there just as egg was laid so was good to see that. It's very scenic however there is not huge... More

We were very disappointed not to see any capercaillie during our visit. We'd travelled from Wales and got up at 5am one morning on the strength of their Caper Watch literature - it seems to suggest that seeing them is almost certain. We know that nature is unpredictable, but think that somewhere in the blurb, it needs to be mentioned... More

I've been reading about this place for a while, specifically for the sightings of Crested Tits so I finally persuaded my husband to drive the 400 miles to bring me here - we didn't see a single one and according to one of the volunteers, he hasn't seen any this year! The car park has feeders where the Cresties are... More

We visited with our 5yo son and were lucky enough to see both ospreys on the nest with 2 eggs. We also saw a woodpecker, some siskins and other small woodland birds. All the staff members we met were friendly and knowledgeable, the cameras on the nest very good to get a good view of goings on. The like shop... More

The first person to meet us at the payment kiosk was very friendly and welcoming and explained the set up. The children who were with us were given a spotters sheet straight away and on the way to the hide there were lots of little activities all along the trail to the main viewing area. Once at the viewing area,... More

Very informative, fantastic to see the best and both osprey and we even got a glimpse of the egg. Saw woodpeckers, a red squirrel and various other birds and even hugged trees. A great day out. Friendly helpful staff who were able to answer all our questions. One even helped me put the lid on Granny's coffee. I even managed... More

Visited attraction for the first time and was really looking forward to the experience. To say that we were not disappointed is not an understatement. Both the scenery and knowledge of the staff present far exceeded our expectations, but to witness first hand the bird in its natural environment, is a sight to behold. The attraction is well signposted from... More
