Arduaine is a wonderfully moist and mossy coastal garden, influenced beneficially by the North Atlantic Drift and enjoyed by enthusiasts from all over the world. Twenty acres of outstanding woodland plants include not only a major rhododendron species collection with a leaning towards the more tender, but also all the usual spring-flowering favourites such as camellia, pieris, azalea and magnolia. Other trees and shrubs take the flowering season on into the autumn along with an inspiring miscellany of bulbs, perennials, climbers, water plants and ferns, many rare and unusual, many down to earth and familiar, all interesting and beautiful in their diverse ways. A spectacular coastal and island panorama can be enjoyed from the easily accessible cliff top viewpoint. Visitors are welcome every day and will find something of interest throughout the year, come rain or shine.

Interesting Gardens

this garden is very attractively laid out with many varied plants and trees but would be stunning in the Spring.

Wonderfully mature woodland garden just as nature intended just 35 minutes from Oban combining a natural idyllic oasis for wildlife with numerous paths guiding you through beautiful flower borders and well signposted walks leading through the trees to the stunningly beautiful sea loch vistas .Fantastic day out made all the more enjoyable as they allow dogs on leads.Highly recommend visit... We stopped off at lunchtime to have a look around the garden and have some lunch at the hotel, when we walked down to the garden entrance we stopped to read the sign about the work going on within the gardens to eradicate fungus. Before we could get in the door we were challenged rudely by a female member off... More

Very interesting gardens with different walks - short or long - and various areas to see eg ponds/borders/woodland. Well worth a visit.

Even though most of the flowering season is past this is well maintained garden full of surprises. And several plants still in bloom. The specialty is Rhododendrons which, although well past there blooming, the different leaves and bark types and colours are fascinating. There is a terrific little gift shop which has very reasonably priced merchandise. Have a look for... More

If you are in the Oban area a visit to these gardens is essential. They are historic with very special plants from across the world and the place is maintained to a high standard by the National Trust.

We spent an hour or two exploring these wonderful gardens recently. There are many interesting plants to discover and the walks are well laid out. There is a lookout point with beautiful views out over the bay.

We stayed in the Loch Melfort Hotel, so next to the gardens. As National Trust members, we were able to access the gardens on our cards. The gardens are so peaceful with a wealth of trees, ponds and walkways. The viewpoint over to the isles was superb and we were impressed with the high level of maintenance.

Very peaceful gardens, quite compact with very well laid out paths and useful NT information sheet. Beautiful ponds and thoughtfully placed seats. Walks up slight gradient in places but mainly flat. Only disappointment was the Loch Melfort hotel cafe. The staff disappeared on seeing us so we left!

Stayed the night in loch Melfort Hotel so after breakfast a walk around the gardens was called for. The gardens are about 100 yds from hotel. Gardens run by NTS so always look good. Member of staff at gate very helpful and friendly. Well worth a visit no matter what time of year you visit.
