If you have little ones that love (or you want to learn about) choo-choos then this is a winner.
Friendly, helpful staff - from ticket lady to train driver.
Our little boy stood up the whole way and waved at everyone along the way - a great experience of a real steam choo choo with all the whistles and steam you’d hope for to bring the books to life.
Top tip: get the single and walk back along the beautiful track with playparks to stop at.
If you get a return ticket then they will allow you to leave buggies and bulky items at the station.

Visited with my dad who has alzheimer's, all staff were exceptionally helpful with us and made us very welcome and safe. One gentleman asked for members of the public in the queue to stand to one side to allow us past to save having to walk the long way around the car park. Very well organised. Thank you

Beautifully restored trains (proper steam trains), carriages also in excellent condition. Very short ride but so much fun, would recommend any day. How they make it pay at £1.50 per trip I will never know

For us this sort of thing is a "must do" when we visit an area. The volunteers who run it are enthusiastic and helpful. They're following the guidelines to keep us all safe.
The run up into the Valley Gardens doesn't take long but it's good to do and you save on the walking! On the day we went there was a steam engine doing alternative runs but our train was pulled by the diesel engine Prince Charles.
We got off at the top to look round the gardens but you can stay on for a return journey too. They're not loading new riders at the top at the moment.

Over twenty years ago we took our children on this little railway, at last we were able to return. That first trip was on the line before it was rebuilt to be on one side of the beck along which it runs and source of the reason for the rebuild back in 2002 after it flooded. The current route has also been rebuilt after flooding a couple of years ago, but is going from strength to strength. Unlike twenty years ago, when there was one locomotive available, Prince Charles, I believe there are now four, including a real steam one. It was once again Prince Charles that hauled us. This Loco in common with two of it's stablemates, is steam outline but powered by internal combustion engine. We took a single Journey from the woodland end, back to the Nab, at the cost of just £1 per head and we were lucky enough to be sat right behind the loco, giving us a drivers eye view along the line. All the staff we encountered, volunteers, were friendly and informative, happy to give information and readily approachable, although the one issuing tickets was a trifle deaf so we had to repeat things once or twice especially as he tried to hear our friends Edinburgh accent. Even so that did not detract from our enjoyment. It was a shame that we could not see the other loco's in the shed, but a shortage of volunteers on the day meant that was not possible.
The journey itself is along the beck in the valley which has plentyful play equipment for children, whilst the woodland on the other side provides a haven for wildlife. High up on one side of the valley is the historically interesting Albert Temple, once the porch on Barnard Castle Station, which can be clearly seen from the train. The journey is not overly long, but is good value for money. Unfortunately there did not seem to be any souvenirs of the railway available, I for one would have enjoyed a booklet on the history of the line for example, nor was there any information for any who would like to Join the society that we saw. That said, both of the stations were presented well (a couple more seats at the woodland platform would be nice), obviously much attention had been given to the wonderful flora displays in waggons. The stations and trains were clean and pleasant to use. Can't wait to come again, well done to you all

We had a lovely ride on the miniature train today. The children (49 year 1 & 2 children) all had a great time! Thankyou to Roger and his crew for taking us, it really made our day out! Wonderful family attraction, highly recommended!

Real steam engines pull the train along through the Valley gardens. Check before setting out to avoid disappointment as they do not run every day.

Is there room for prams on the train?

Their Web site says the train can take two wheelchairs so I expect it can take prams. If it folds up small I expect it could go in a normal carriage.

I believe that it runs through the six week holiday. After that I suggest that you refer to their web site. Cheers.
