Visited Praia da Luz on a day trip whilst staying in Salema. Free parking, always a bonus. The sea front is very nice with a good selection of bars and restaurants, prices very reasonable. Very nice sandy beach easily accessible.

A lovely quiet place to stay with some excellent restaurants. Not a lot there though apart from a very nice beach. We went early July and please be aware that in the evening it can be very windy and a jacket or cardigan is definitely needed

A pretty little village by Algarve's turquoise waters. It has a beautiful, perfectly sized beach with plenty of nice cafes and restaurants around. There's quite a few hiking trails and limitless sports to choose from including golf, tennis and, of course, surfing. If you are looking for culture or just to party the night way you can head over to the nearest city -- Gorgeous, old Lagos which is just a stone's throw away (a 5-minute drive).

We are home this evening because all the bars are closed. 9:30pm. Restaurants say you have to prebook so we wonder around every evening to try to get something to eat. Hundreds of empty tired and derelict looking properties. No SHOPS!!!. Few bars. The whole resort needs a good scrub. Woukd NEVER return...

The esplanade of Praia da Luz is located in a paradisiac place but unfortunately there are some very weak things. The employees are individually kind but have no idea what the table service is. The furniture of the esplanade is so old, dirty and degraded that any tent of fillings has a better equipment, the only thing really modern is the price, the cuisine is also acceptable.... That's what we have...

We enjoyed Luz very much however, if you want to do more than sit around or walk the streets and beach, this is not the place to go in winter. The village is dead. It has a great number of restaurants and cafes but most are closed anytime between New Years and as long as March or April. There us absolutely no shopping other than the 2 grocery stores.

I have been to Portugal and Europe countless times. Let me sum Praia De Luz up as follows. 1) hasn’t gotten over the terribly sad Maddy travesty. (We stayed 100 meters from the Ocean club) 2) it’s dirty and full of weeds 3) there are sod all restaurants and you are damn lucky to get a seat 4) it’s creepy, soulless and has strange men all around ( I had two youngish kids with me and they even commented about it) 5) it’s run down and feels like a council estate in parts 6) the prices are high in restaurants and local supermarkets 7) it’s small and limited with very little to do 8) the beach is fabulous (one of the best ). Saying all that it’s like a haunted town and to be avoided . Poor Maddy has left her scar on the place and it can’t escape the past.

Too packed in summer, main advantage is the access to watersports pedalos etc. Impossible to park nearby in summer. Much nicer beaches nearby eg burgau, cabanhas velhas, boca rio.

Such a lovely, sandy beach with beautiful views and impressive cliffs! Could easily spend a whole day of your holiday here as there are plenty of shops, bars, cafes and restaurants in the surrounding area making it a great day out. Although the sea was a bit cold, it was very clear and there was no seaweed washing up onto the shore. Would highly recommend and definitely visit again myself.

Beautiful, well-kept sandy beach with sanitary facilities, free and paid areas and many bars and restaurants around. If you don't mind walking a few hundred meters there, you should follow the parking signs at the entrance to Luz. You will then come to a large square where there is no parking fee.

Estoy pensando en ir este verano con mi mujer e hijo de 7 años. Necesito opiniones que terminen de darme un empujón o por el contrario me abran los ojos. Merece realmente la pena?

Hi, we're looking at a holiday in Portugal this July. Would Pria da Luz be suitable for young family, kids are 4 and 1. We're travelling from New Zealand so don't wanna travel all that way to be unsuitable. Thanks, Joe
Written March 19, 2019
Yes, Praia da Luz is perfectly suitable for young children. The beach, in particular, is very safe, sandy and it is easy to keep kids in sight. There is plenty of accomodation. If I may make a suggestion: if you are looking for an apartment rather than hotel rooms, try "Mariners' Apartments". The landlords are British, extremely helpful and generous, the rooms are kept spotlessly clean and the house is located less than 100 yards from the beach with several restaurants in the vicinity. If I sound suspiciously positive about the place, the reason for enthusiasm is: I always choose that house when I'm in Praia da Luz, which is three times a year.

I’m staying in Burgau this July but want to visit Praia da luz, I have seen the public car park on google maps but do you have to pay there and if so how much per day and what time is best to get there in the morning to get a space?
Written January 23, 2019
Hi there are plenty of places to park your car for free there is an area opposite the Spar where you can stay all day for free also a lot of roads around the same area where you can park quite happily all day. Hope this helps Chris. Bugau is lovely, but steep. I love the fish restaurant in the square down by the front...fish to die for, so fresh.

Is this resort flat, would it be suitable for people with walking difficulties?
Thanks
Written October 16, 2018
I wouldn't recommend Praira da Luz for someone with walking difficulties. Most of the resort and area is hilly with some difficult walking surfaces. The sea front is quite flat but beyond that would be difficult.

Hi, I'm renting a house in Praia da Luz in October with a group of friends for my 40th birthday. Does anyone know of any house keepers we could use? I'd rather employ privately than through an agency. Thanks so much :)

What are some better beaches in that area. I am going to Luz in mid October. I am sure it will be somewhat cool, but I would like to sit on the beach and relax some.
Anything you can suggest as for pretty beaches, nice restaurants, attractions anything would be greatly appreciated. I am traveling with my 70 year old mother, who has dreamed of going to Portugal so this is something I want to do for her but would like to make great memory for her to enjoy and cherish

There is a lovely beach a meir Praia with some really good restaurants all along it with walk ways for easy access, the weather should still be ok, forecast is 22-28 deg, I shall be out to my house on the 24th. Aljezer, carapatera, feragardo are all lovely beaches but access can be a problem for your mother. Take her up into the mountains of monquique, lovely views of Portugal. Alvor is also a good place to just sit and watch the world go by, very flat with walkways around the sand flats and lovely restaurants so this might be a better place fir your mother
