We walked to this tomb, about a Mile from the road, and it was an easy wall. The tomb is well worth a visit even if just for the views that you get from it.

Impressive from the outside. And amazing how they built the structure to withstand quakes and survived all these years. But rather creepy, has a weird smell and dark. So if you are claustrophobic, you may prefer to do a quick dip in and out.

The best approach is driving from Phaistos to Agios Ioannis and then taking the right hand turn by the Church of St Paul and follow the signs to Kalimari. By taking this route you will pick up the brown signs for the tholos tomb. The approach is by dirt track through olive groves, passable in summer but not in winter unless you have a 4x4. There are a couple of deeply rutted sections that would cause problems in an ordinary car. The last 800 mts is on foot and there is a steep climb to the hill top. Not an easy walk for anybody who has problems walking. However, it is worth the effort if you are interested in Minoan tombs.…
