- PaulAnJoGermany856 contributionsA dream beach à la postcard panoramaKilometers long, wide and gently sloping sandy beach, snow white and lined with palm trees and other lush vegetation. The water is turquoise blue and bathtub warm. You can ignore the washed-up kelp and algae. It's great that the beautiful stretch of coast here is not spoiled by hotel loungers like elsewhere, but is simply completely wide and open for long walks and swimming. The beach vendors are numerous and extremely busy at work ;-) Sometimes the persistence is a bit annoying and a friendly "Asante Sana" is not always enough to be able to carry on in peace. However, we follow the motto "live and let live" and are usually just happy about the nice and funny "sales talks". If you are interested in buying, be sure to haggle until you can't go any further, then it will be fine. In the dark it is teeming with crabs, don't forget your flashlight.Visited February 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten February 27, 2024
- Tracy S44 contributionsBaobab resortBaobab resort is in a lovely location. The are 3 separate areas to wander to & from these all have pools, bars & eating places. The beach is easily accessible. The rooms are lovely & well equipped. We had a fridge that we put our daily bottled water in. Air conditioned which is a must as it was 34 which felt like 44! The bed was large & very comfortable. Bathroom could do with an update? Shower was not very powerful & water not very hot. We had a balcony with sea view but didn’t use it as the little monkeys were always wanting to come in. We did love watching them especially when mum & baby came. Meals were great. Lots of choice. All drinks were good we never had premium as what was on offer was ok. Red house wine was nice, white nice but abit dry for my liking. All the staff are smiley & very friendly. So helpful nothing is too much trouble. We did go to the beach & did the sea safari which was good. You do get pestered abit but eventually we got left alone. Just tell them only going for a swim have no money. We sunbathed under the palm & other trees to get some shade from the extreme sunny weather. We enjoyed our 2 week stay.Visited March 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten March 11, 2024

- EvaF2EvaLorrach, Germany5,127 contributionsNice beachFor me this beach was least interesting from all the beaches I have seen in Mombasa and Malindi area. At the time of our visit right after Christmas it was empty of people. It was nice to walk along the beach but nothing more. Maybe with more people I would have another opinion. The beach is long, there are places with more tourists, especially the part in front of big hotels and parts which are more quiet and even some abandoned places. Generally it is clean and nice.Visited December 2023Traveled with friendsWritten April 29, 2024
- Michelle KHilversum, The Netherlands64 contributionsWhite beach, clear blue sea, Diani Beach.🥰What a beautiful beach! White sand under your feet and a clear blue sea that you can keep staring at! The tide changes a lot here. Sometimes you have a mega beach. Sometimes you hardly have a beach. Highly recommended for a nice walk. Keep in mind that you will be approached by local sellers.😉 These people earn their living with this. And they would love for you to buy something from them. They are otherwise very friendly! Tip: Say you've been in Kenya for a while. And say "no thank you, hakuna matata". Then they quickly leave you alone.😌Visited June 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten June 21, 2024

Too bad the weather did not grace us more than 3-4 days. On the other hand, it was predictable in this period. Sara And Daniele (Francorosso) are always present and devote a lot of attention to all of you. Immense and enchanting beach. Very professional staff and top entertainment. Don't be fooled by beach boy reviews. They are the salt of the holiday. Exquisite people with whom you can make friends and spend some real moments of Kenyan life. I met Marco, Captain Bob and Alfredo. They organize Safaris and excursions. Very professional. Look for them. They're under the resort. I guarantee you will not regret it. I made a friendship with them over the two weeks and leaving them broke my heart. Safari with them is a unique experience. - Holly RNorthampton, United Kingdom52 contributionsBest sandSoftest sand I’ve ever felt. Relatively clean by the resorts but some plastic unfortunately seen floating in the sea!! Probably from the resorts or boats. At certain times of the year you can experience the sea life for free. Massive star fish, cucumbers, crabs, sea urchins etc all in the shallow waters! That was a magical experience. There are no sun beds on the beach or people sun bathing. Probably because you get constantly pestered by locals for money or to view their beach shops or buy their boat excursions. All of which are expensive due to you being a tourist and it’s very annoying.Visited October 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten October 14, 2024

We wanted a "local" experience and we found a guy who had a tuktuk and with him we snorkeled, he took us to the local Ukunda market (10 minutes from Diani), to local restaurants, to a beach with baobabs... and everything was super cheap . I definitely recommend him, he speaks perfect English and helps you with whatever you need... I leave his phone number here because he undoubtedly made our stay unforgettable and we would love for him to do well at his job because he does it great! +254 728 907026 his name is Jeanson, we contacted him via WhatsApp.

"One of the most beautiful beaches in the world", can be read in some guidebooks. I've already traveled a few places and I would definitely put a few beaches ahead of Diani, but that doesn't mean it's somehow bad. On the contrary! The several kilometer long beach has beautiful white sand, palm trees, restaurants and bars. The entrance to the sea is smooth, the water is clean (except for occasional algae). A nearby coral reef protects the beach from larger waves.
You have to expect annoying Maasai people who will try to force everything from coconuts to all kinds of figurines and beads. However, all "uninvited guests" are prohibited from entering the hotel sunbeds.
For me, the beach was the most beautiful in the morning when I went for a run with the sunrise. Most of the tourists are still sleeping at that time, so on the deserted beach you will mostly meet local runners who are in the same mood, or fishermen preparing for their shift.

We do not recommend anyone to come to Sand Island Beach or make reservations through Diani - Love the freedom agency for the following reasons:
• Significant bank transfer fees to pay;
• In our various accommodations (Diani Beachalets, the Cottages at Sand Island Beach-Tiwi);
Mismatched and damaged kitchen utensils, non-functional refrigerators, dirty gas stoves
and rusty;
• Sea view not always respected even though confirmed on the invoice;
• Tsavo Safari: while we had asked to visit Tsavo East, we visited the
Tsavo West (!! significantly worse);
• We had booked a private car and the rental company added one person to us
without consulting us;
• The route to Sand Island Beach (Tiwi) was very poorly explained to the driver and we
we are repeatedly lost;
• Bad governance of Hill Parc Hotel which offered a matabishi in Kiswahili to our
driver to make us believe that Sand Island Beach was closed and that we had to
spend the night in their Hotel;
• Very dirty Sand Island Beach. There is no longer anyone cleaning the beach of trash
from the sea (bottles, plastic bags, cans;
Some small positive aspects all the same
• Very friendly and dedicated Sand Island Beach staff
• Punctual drivers

We had an amazing one week in Diani beach .The beach is located in the south of mombasa and just some minutes drive to the boarder of tanzania.It’s a wonderful place to spend a beach vacation.For those looking to enjoy some beach activities such as snorkeling,kitesurfing,camel rides on the beach then diani Is well worth a visit.The beach itself is pretty clean.
Tuk Tuk Is the most means of transport in diani and the prices are fair for both locals and tourists.
We dicided to have some activities with Pandu and Gift.
The waterfall bicycle ride and the bicycle village tour was very interesting.
If you want to learn a lot about the local culture and how people live here whatsaap Pandu and Gift to organize a half day bicycle tour.+254710239929

beautiful beach, with high and low tide.
Be careful to put your feet in the seaweed as there may be hedgehogs.
It passes through a lot of hotels and opposite are the tongues of sand during low tide.
There are many beach boys offering excursions and local and artisan products.
We hiked in Tsavo East and everything was arranged with Massimo, a very reliable, non-invasive, very correct and nice beach boy. All organized in the best way. Am time shopping at the various villages helped us to bargain with locals
He was with us every 2 days, duration of safar.i Amazing price compared to what tour operators ask.
You can find it on the beach of the Kole Kole hotel otherwise you can call it at +245704155200. Highly recommended

the beach is one of the best i have visited across the globe. soft white powder sand beach, warm inviting waters, good visibility and shallow waters stretching for more than a kilometer make it safe for children as well. The corals are right up on the surface and we went snorkeling to this wonderful sand bar in a glass bottom boat - 3 hours, snorkeling included was just$10 !!! time to go is around 9.30 am.

My husband and I stayed at Baobab Resort and while the facility itself was very nice and the ocean and views are stunning, the biggest drawback is the onslaught of pushy and persistent sales boys that literally pounce on you as soon as you set foot on the beach. I get that making and/or selling their wares is how they earn a living but they just do not take no for an answer. My husband said he felt like a prisoner here because the only way to stay safe from these guys is to stay in the room. They are very intimidating and if you manage to shake one loose, two more take his spot. They even told us that they like to see Americans and people from the UK the most because they think we have money. There are a lot of locals here now and they don't bother them at all. I loved Kenya overall and coming to Diani Beach was supposed to allow us a few days to relax after being on safari for 10 days but sadly, that didn't happen.

Hello there. We have booked our honeymoon at Diani Beach in March 2024 - but have heard about the terrible floodings at the end of last year.
Anyone here, who can tell us more about the situation right now? Do you think, a holiday (including trips to Mombasa and going on safari) will still make sense?
Has anyone been in that region ever since and can tell us, what the situation looks like?
Thanks a lot.

habe folgende Impfungen bekommen.

I am currently in Mombasa and want to go spend a day in diani. What times does the ferry run ? How much does it cost ? Anyone have recommendations for her skiing, camel riding, snorkeling ?
Written January 4, 2020
The ferry runs 24/7 . If you're on foot it's free. Best thing to do is to make a deal with a taxi. Then you can negotiate a suitable price and arrange pickup both ways. Normal price one way is approx 4-5 thousand shillings. But Diani beach is well worth the money.

I'm travelling to Mombasa for a day trip from Nairobi and want to visit Diani Beach. I'll land around 9am and I have to be back in Mombasa for 5pm in time for my flight back to Nairobi. (I can't fly directly into Ukunda - this was my first option). What is the best way for me to get to Diani and how long should it take in February? Also, what time should I arrive if I land at 9am and what time should I leave if I need to be back at the Mombasa Airport at 5pm?
Written January 2, 2020
Hello.
Have you tried flying from Wilson Airport in Nairobi to Ukunda? Although it’s doable, I honestly think that the time and the stress it would require would make it barely worth the trip to Diani. The queues for the Likoni ferry alone can be about an hour each way! Diani is definitely worth a visit though if you can stay for long enough though.
