- Nicole K27 contributionsAbsolutely amazing hotel! My husband and I are traveling on our honeymoon and absolutely loved this hotel. They mention "understated elegance" in their marketing materials and it's absolutely true. From our prompt airport pickup, check-in, meals, and everything in between we absolutely loved our stay here. The rooms are large and nicely appointed with strong A/C, comfortable bedding and bug nets. The bathroom was very lovely and the tub was such a treat! While you may be worried about the buffet, the food was so delicious every night and you have so many options, including a fresh grill of fish, meat or vegetables of some kind each night. Most importantly, the staff is just so amazing. Everyone was incredibly kind, helpful and warm. Truly every single person! We hope to be back one day.Visited January 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten January 25, 2024
- Tracy S44 contributionsBaobab resortBaobab resort is in a lovely location. The are 3 separate areas to wander to & from these all have pools, bars & eating places. The beach is easily accessible. The rooms are lovely & well equipped. We had a fridge that we put our daily bottled water in. Air conditioned which is a must as it was 34 which felt like 44! The bed was large & very comfortable. Bathroom could do with an update? Shower was not very powerful & water not very hot. We had a balcony with sea view but didn’t use it as the little monkeys were always wanting to come in. We did love watching them especially when mum & baby came. Meals were great. Lots of choice. All drinks were good we never had premium as what was on offer was ok. Red house wine was nice, white nice but abit dry for my liking. All the staff are smiley & very friendly. So helpful nothing is too much trouble. We did go to the beach & did the sea safari which was good. You do get pestered abit but eventually we got left alone. Just tell them only going for a swim have no money. We sunbathed under the palm & other trees to get some shade from the extreme sunny weather. We enjoyed our 2 week stay.Visited March 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten March 11, 2024

- EvaF2EvaLorrach, Germany5,152 contributionsNice beachFor me this beach was least interesting from all the beaches I have seen in Mombasa and Malindi area. At the time of our visit right after Christmas it was empty of people. It was nice to walk along the beach but nothing more. Maybe with more people I would have another opinion. The beach is long, there are places with more tourists, especially the part in front of big hotels and parts which are more quiet and even some abandoned places. Generally it is clean and nice.Visited December 2023Traveled with friendsWritten April 29, 2024

A generally quiet environment was what I needed and a few days to be alone without any noise was what I needed. My days were at Diani better than I expected. We stayed in apartments directly on Diani Beach. The beach itself is breathtaking, really absolutely stunning! The only thing that we got fed up with was the beach boys. They would wait for you outside the hotels and just won't take no for an answer. We had to really be rude a few times just to be left alone. They are aggressive and persistant with trying to sell you things and get really offended when you don't want to buy. We even had a couple just follow and stand by us after we had told them to leave us alone several times. When my husband and children were in the sea and I was sunbathing this was really intimidating. This 100% spoiled the beach for us, as stunning as it is, you cant relax because of the hassle.
We did a camel ride which was nice but over priced. He wanted 4000ksh but we got him down to 2500ksh for my husband and 2 children, I walked alongside them. The walk was 0.3 miles long and took 20 mins so whilst it was fun for the kids I wouldn't do it again and feel a bit ripped off.
Single use plastic is illegal on the beach but there is still some (not lots) washed up. It wouldnt take long to clean up, a rubbish collector should be hired by the authorities to make the beach pristine.
Be careful on the coral. While you can mostly walk with shoes off, lots of dead coral is washed up and its sharp. Lots of crabs scampering around too bit not enough to put you off if you aren't a fan.

My husband and I stayed at Baobab Resort and while the facility itself was very nice and the ocean and views are stunning, the biggest drawback is the onslaught of pushy and persistent sales boys that literally pounce on you as soon as you set foot on the beach. I get that making and/or selling their wares is how they earn a living but they just do not take no for an answer. My husband said he felt like a prisoner here because the only way to stay safe from these guys is to stay in the room. They are very intimidating and if you manage to shake one loose, two more take his spot. They even told us that they like to see Americans and people from the UK the most because they think we have money. There are a lot of locals here now and they don't bother them at all. I loved Kenya overall and coming to Diani Beach was supposed to allow us a few days to relax after being on safari for 10 days but sadly, that didn't happen.

Spent 8 days based at Neptune Palm Beach Hotel on Mombasa South Coast right on Galu/Diani Beach. It is an amazing long stretch of beach & you can literally walk forever & if you brave enough walk to Mombasa City to the North or Chale Island to the South. The sand is incredibly soft and white with plenty of sandy spots to swim along the way. The beach is very wide & apart from spring tides it's open to walk or swim on whether high/low tide. I can understand why this beach is rated the best in Kenya & the 5th best in the world , certainly the softest beach sand I have ever experienced.

Beautiful place for quiet holidays. Good restaurants and some interesting islands like chale. Weather is hot. Try to avoid the rainy season. You can move using tuc tucs but they charge double price to tourists

The scenery is absolutely beautiful, with powdery sand beach and water shimmering like smaragd. Water was really warm, 27-28 degrees in January, The daily low tide (sometimes in the morning, sometimes in the afternoon) prevented us from swimming in the sea as much as we wanted to, instead we used the hotel pool as an alternative (the coral reef includes poisonous animals and plants, you should not stroll along there without shoes nor without a guide). The beach is public, hence you should be prepared for the beach boys selling coconuts, souvenirs and water sport activities. They are kind, but somewhat intrusive. We didnt stay on the beach but up at the hotel, around their pool (otherwise I love to lay in the sand...)

Beautiful white sandy beach with lots of palm trees (duuh?).
During the day you can try out loads of activities: boat rides, beach football/volleyball, snorkeling, kite surfing, jet skiing, surfing etc.
There's a coral reef nearby and it is breathtaking. In the evening, all you get is a silhouette of the palm trees as the sun sets. At night, you can watch the crabs scurry about on the beach. The sunrise...is glorious even on a cold and cloudy morning.

If you and your loved ones want to witness perfection and the real definition of paradise, then Diani Beach is the place to visit. Diani Beach is hands down the most beautiful beach in Kenya and one of the best in the entire African continent. We enjoyed the breathtaking scenery that consists of deep blue and clear waters of the Indian Ocean and stunning coral reefs. Diani Beach also boasts of world class restaurants and Hotels that serve diverse foods and drinks with unmatched professionalism. The beautiful white sand add flavor to Diani's splendor. I thank Lbe tours (+254 710 239929) for overseeing our entire expedition from transport and the actual trips. You can reach them through their WhatsApp. Happy holidays!

Hello there. We have booked our honeymoon at Diani Beach in March 2024 - but have heard about the terrible floodings at the end of last year.
Anyone here, who can tell us more about the situation right now? Do you think, a holiday (including trips to Mombasa and going on safari) will still make sense?
Has anyone been in that region ever since and can tell us, what the situation looks like?
Thanks a lot.

Hola, voy a Mombasa a final de Febrero 5 días. Las playas de Diani parecen mas bonitas pero me dicen que en Nyali hay mas cosas que hacer y mas seguro. Algun consejo y hotel?
Written February 3, 2020
sorry for the late reply. I didn't see your question. I don't know Nyali, but i liked diani beach very much. we stayed in baobab beach house (very calm and personal) but the rooms only had fan. Thus we chenged to diani sea lodge (which is very nice, too, but very crowded with german turists)

habe folgende Impfungen bekommen.

I am currently in Mombasa and want to go spend a day in diani. What times does the ferry run ? How much does it cost ? Anyone have recommendations for her skiing, camel riding, snorkeling ?
Written January 4, 2020
The ferry runs 24/7 . If you're on foot it's free. Best thing to do is to make a deal with a taxi. Then you can negotiate a suitable price and arrange pickup both ways. Normal price one way is approx 4-5 thousand shillings. But Diani beach is well worth the money.

I'm travelling to Mombasa for a day trip from Nairobi and want to visit Diani Beach. I'll land around 9am and I have to be back in Mombasa for 5pm in time for my flight back to Nairobi. (I can't fly directly into Ukunda - this was my first option). What is the best way for me to get to Diani and how long should it take in February? Also, what time should I arrive if I land at 9am and what time should I leave if I need to be back at the Mombasa Airport at 5pm?
Written January 2, 2020
Hello.
Have you tried flying from Wilson Airport in Nairobi to Ukunda? Although it’s doable, I honestly think that the time and the stress it would require would make it barely worth the trip to Diani. The queues for the Likoni ferry alone can be about an hour each way! Diani is definitely worth a visit though if you can stay for long enough though.
