Our safari with Alvin at Papa Musili was undeniably one of the best experiences of my life. Not only did we get to witness the beauty of the animals in the various national parks, but we got to truly start to understand the Kenyan culture, people and way of life through our time with Alvin & Sammy. Alvin graciously and thoughtfully answered all of our questions - not all wildlife related, but also related to the wider culture and what it means to be someone from such a beautiful part of the world. His knowledge is incredibly wide reaching and we appreciated his thoughtfulness and his kind nature.
We felt like very privileged visitors to the animals home, where Papa Musili make it clear that we are not the boss. We are guests in the homeland of these incredible animals, and I have so much appreciation for the respect that Alvin and his team show for these animals and their habitat.
Communication was always crystal clear, and Alvin's love of and excitement over the national parks and their inhabitants is palpable. I truly believe we could not have had a better experience.
In a time where tourism sometimes does much more harm than good, we felt grateful for the positive impact Papa Musili strives to have in the community, and everywhere we went it was obvious that others felt the same way.
There are a wealth of safari companies out there. And it would seem almost impossible to distinguish how to choose which one to go with. I can wholeheartedly recommend Papa Musili and I very much hope one day to return and journey with them again.

I was lucky enough to go on a private six-day safari around the Masai Mara, Amboseli and Tsavo – with both Alvin and Sammy, two of the kindest people you'll ever meet. Sammy was an outstanding driver (and at times also a guide!), navigating the parks and highways like he’s never done anything else. Alvin kept on feeding me knowledge. It would be impossible to try and some up how much I've learned on this safari: from the best animal fun facts (spoiler alert: elephants have been known to recognise specific humans) to deep insights into everyday life and culture in Kenya (the explanation behind the pimped matutus – the mini discobuses you see everywhere in Nairboi) and politics (the future of energy in Kenya) – none of my questions remained unanswered.
Papa Musili Safari are the pioneers of eco safaris in Kenya – you’ll have a hard time finding a safari company that is more dedicated to protecting the Kenyan environment, its animals and its people. They donate to conservation projects like The Green Belt Movement in Nairobi, plant trees along their safari, and only work with lodges with good eco credentials that hire local staff, thus giving back to the community. When you see a giraffe standing right next to you, this beautiful creature looking you right in the eyes, you really feel like you’ve made the right choice with Papa Musili because you know they really care about protecting this giraffe’s habitat. So it's a win win situation.
You can tell they have a lot of experience and have been in the business for years – wherever we went, they were welcomed by staff like family which says a lot about the way they treat people. This was also reflected in how well they reacted to me – they could tell I was really tired one day without me even saying anything, so they cut the morning drive short and I could get some more time to rest in the lodge.
One more tip: listen to their advice – I really wanted to do three parks in six days, and later wished I’d only done two, which is what they recommended. They know what they’re doing, trust them.

My wife and I landed in Nairobi to make safari. This was my dream trip since I was a teenager. We met our first guide upon our arrival to Nairobi (jay). Jay brought us to different locations Nairobi, massa Mara and lake navisha. Jay was very knowledgeable about the locations and animals. He was awesome and a very down to earth person. If we wanted to make something he had no problem. On our way to amboseli we got a new driver his name was Sam. He brought us to amboseli, camp ziwani, tsavo east and Mombasa. The first few days with Sam was ok. He was very polite but he seemed to have the attitude that he was more superior than all the other people and refered to other Kenyans as ghetto people. I ignored this and everything was fine. At tsavo east we had a big argument which led to me raising my voice in great displeasure. We saw a lion that was getting ready to attack (very rare to see) but he stated that because a elephant orphanage was on the schedule we had to go there because if we didn’t then he we would ask for our money back. He said ok and started driving to the orphanage regardless what we wanted. Me and my wife were so upset that we did not have a good time at the orphanage. My vacation went from 100% satisfied to nothing. I let him know this. After that I was so upset I had to cancel the last portion of the safari that day and the rest of the safari the next day. I had to have him drive me to the next location so I would not have to interact with him anymore.
The safari overall was good because I got to see all the animals and see how the Masai live. However I am very disappointed by papa musili tours for providing this driver named sam.

Dear scottbourque,
Thank you very much for your feedback. We apologize for the events of the last 2 days of your safari. As I mentioned to you during our conversation after your safari, Sam's conduct during your afternoon game drive in Tsavo East was not in line with our policy. It was also very unusual of Sam. We have had discussions with him towards avoiding such occurrences in future. We have also put in place measures to help our guides make quick and helpful decisions when clients like to make minor changes in their itineraries.
Your feedback will go a long way in helping us deliver even better experiences. For this, we are thankful to you. We look forward to hosting you again and promise that we will make it up to you.
