We had a lovely trip over to this beautiful enchanting island via a cable car - the only one in Ireland. Highly recommended for hiking around the island. We had two young children so we opted for the mini bus tour of the island, John our tour guide was very helpful and gave us so much history of the island.... More

If you get the chance, you must visit Dursey Island, a 20 min drive from Castletownbere. The Cable car is a wonderful experience and is not for the faint hearted but once you cross the Dursey Sound and land on the Island and begin your hike to the other side of the Island you will see the true beauty of... decided against going across to Dursey Island as it was already in the afternoon and long queue at the cable car, being informed it will be 45 minutes before our turn, as each trip of 15 minutes can only take 6 adults. Went for a nice trek near the cable car station, so not a complete wasted drive.

A great island to visit, to explore, to ramble, to walk up and down hill, to enjoy the solitude, to enjoy the history, to explore the derelict crafts, to enjoy the breeze, to imagine what life may have been like before the English arrived and to step back in time and explore the old cemetery.

Wonderful day spent walking Dursey, Sea views, wildlife and history all wrapped into one visit, with a ride on cable car thrown in. Plan trip, research via local history books the significance of the island history. Fantastic day. PS, IT IS ON BEARA, BEYOND CASTLETOWNBERE, NOT CROOKHAVEN

Fab place. Bring picnic & good walking shoes. All that is there is beautiful scenery and great hiking. We has a 4 & 2yr old so we didnt venture far. But was definetly worth the trip in the cable car. Arrive early to avoid long waiting times. Car only takes 6 adults at a time.

Lovely experience using Ireland's only cable car think it opened at 10am we were there 10.15 and there was a queue! It takes about 7mins to get over to the island there is a minibus that will take you round some of the island John the driver was full of information about Dursey and the history

The aim was to get to the top of Dursey Island. It's an easy walk to the junction on the main road before you keep to your right to get up to the summit marker. Takes some 45min. On a clear day, it's a stunning view all around and you might even be joined by some curious sheep.

We stumbled to Dursey Island after a local recommendation, and it ended up being one of the highlights of our trip. It's off the beaten path and the drive includes stellar views. We had the place to ourselves and enjoyed a scenic and challenging hike. You can camp overnight on the island, which is on the agenda for a future... More

A nice place to visit especially if you enjoy walking. An enjoyable drive to the cable car entrance, where there is ample parking & toilets- as there are none on the island. Once on the island there is a mini- bus that can take you to the other end of the island & back again if required; It's a tad... More
