Prior to leaving the UK for Swedish Lapland, where we were staying at the excellent Abisko Mountain Lodge, we booked a morning's snow mobile trip through Peters Fjällkonsult, a company which organises activities during both the winter and summer. Peter Bjӧrne, whose company it is, acted as our guide and accompanied us during the four hour excursion as we drove along trails with nothing but snow-covered plains stretching into the distance. The snowmobiling was made all the more enjoyable with a stop mid-way through the morning for a hot drink in a wooden hut, particularly welcome if temperatures drop to below freezing. We also made stops for photos to be taken.
My partner did not have any ski clothing with him but it wasn't a problem as protective cold weather gear was available, including suitable footwear, to fit all sizes. Helmets are also provided.
It is necessary to pre-book the snow mobile excursion to ensure availability as they get booked up well in advance. If you have never been on a snow mobile before it is an exhilarating activity and great fun. For anyone who is a bit apprehensive you may want to start as a passenger until you have become accustomed to riding on a snow mobile and then swap over when you feel you are ready to do the driving. You don't have to have a driving licence or be able to drive but it is not a suitable activity for young children.
We had a great time and hope that one day we will be back to repeat the experience!

We have just come back from three days in Abisko turiststation and we've done the 4 hour snow mobile tour with Peter and it was absolutely fantastic!! Peter is a very good professional and the perfect guide for this experience, very helpful and nice with us all the time. Everything was perfect, the tour was beautiful and driving the snowmobile was awesome. There was a short stop with coffee which Peter prepared and it was very nice.
We strongly recommend this tour and we will repeat if we have the chance!
