Don't miss the Oratory of St Finn Bar

It's not easy to find your way to Gougane Barra, but the beautiful oratory of St Finn Bar, lying on the little lake, is a view that is worth the detour!

A day trip to gougane barra and I'm not expecting how nice and relaxing this place is. We visited the ruins of the 6th century monastery and the history of St. Finbarr. I recommend that you need to get a B&B hotel or check with gougane barra hotel. I will definitely be back to this place in the near future.

Beautiful scenery with a variety of graded walks to suit all ages and fitness levels. Save the entrance fee for a car and park near the Church and enjoy the extra bit of a walk in and take in the breath taking scenery. Be sure to take in a walk around the Church and its grounds.

A peaceful beautiful place. My forest walk was a highlight of my trip. No need to rush, just wander and enjoy the sights and sounds.

We were mainly there for the hotel, but took a walk down the road to the park and through the meandering path in the woods. Apparently there was some problem with the park loosing a lot of the trees, so it isnt quite as beautiful as it was some years ago.

I am a huge fan of Cork's natural beauty and I feel that Gougane Barra is perhaps the most beautiful area in the county. On a nice, clear day the views can be almost overwhelming, in fact they brought to mind the freshest, wildest sights from Canada's great outdoors. I would suggest any visitor to Cork should make the effort... More

Hard to find and get to via the winding country roads, however when you get there the views are well worth it. The Church at the side of the lake is beautiful and quaint. The Forest park has great walks and trials to suit everyone.

We went there on a late sunny afternoon with the bike. It is a very lovely place and very peaceful. We enjoyed our picnic and took a lot of pictures. There is also a hotel/restaurant there.
