The flat countryside of central Northamptonshire has very few reminders that these fields were once the site of some of the fiercest battles in England's Civil War. If you are travelling between Kettering and Rugby, small town of Naseby has a couple of monuments and viewpoints which help describe what went on here.
Just north of Naseby look for Fairfax Viewpoint, at the top of a hill, marked by a St George flag. There is a large car park and information boards pick out landmarks to help you visualise the battle scenes.
On 14th June 1645 this was the site of a decisive battle during the English Civil war. The parliamentarians commanded by Thomas Fairfax were stationed here. They defeated the Royalist army commanded by Charles I in the fields in front of the viewing area, an area called Broadmoor. You will find another obelisk closer in to Naseby which describes the morning of the battle.

I’ve stopped here many times to eat a sandwich and enjoy the views. A raised area gives views for miles and a plaque explains the history

A lovely area to visit, to get a taste of what Fairfax would have seen during the Civil War, Battle of Naseby. Well worth a visit.
