Deep, narrow, photogenic gorge
Aug 2020 • Family
If you’re anywhere nearby, this is a stunning must visit. A water-gouged crevice right out of Lord of the Rings; I expected to see Rivendell around every twist of the path. It’s a particularly nice, cool stroll on a hot day.
You could face a queue to pay the very moderate ticket price, so consider going early. There is also a small parking fee at the main, P1 parking lot, but if you grab one of the dozen or so free spots at the roadside P2 parking area just short of the Austrian border on the regional road 19, you can walk down to the main (P1) entrance in about 30 minutes along the well-signed forest path, which cuts off of the road about 100m North, away from the Austrian border. Note: in the COVID era, the direction of traffic through the gorge is one-way (which is a good thing), going from North to South, which is against the water flow and towards Austria.
You could do it in perhaps two hours, but why rush this natural wonder?

One of the best Gorges!
Jun 2020
One on the best gorges to visit, and it has a mostly level and paved/gravel path. If you have a choice between this gorge and the one in Sonthofen, see this one!

Spectacular

It was my second time to visit and was again amazed by the natural beauty (although this time the water level was low). It is worth the entrance fee as you can continue to hike outside and return back via the Klamm. Definitely a place to visit while in the area!

Very nice day tour for the whole active family. You enjoy beautiful waterfalls and nice walk. Good for people that are able to walk and climb some stairs. Beautiful scenery and if you love waterfalls you will love this one

Amazing sight

If you have a fear of heights, this is not for you! You start off with a gentle walk into the gorge and with it being Winter the surroundings were covered in snow. Beautiful, white fields and a crisp frost on the trees. As you enter the gorge the scene is breathtaking, fast running icey (crystal clear) water and the side walls getting higher. The walkways were safe but you just had to watch out for rocks at head height. As you may imagine, there were spectacular frozen waterfalls, large icicles everywhere, lots of photo opportunities. Well worth a look, we look forward to seeing it in summer.

We all enjoyed it... but I have a fear of heights
Jan 2020
We arrived on a Sunday early in the morning when few cars were parked nearby. The trail was great because we had our time to take pictures and enjoy the place. I truly recommend visiting it as soon as it opens for a great and unique experience, without being too crowded. And if one has a fear of heights, the experience will get much more interesting.

Really worthwhile

After a couple of days of heavy rain the water was literally rushing through the gorge, absolutely stunning. Beautiful walk and views. Due to the school holidays it was very crowded.

Breathtaking gorge
Sep 2019
Impressive gorge, deepest in Europe, with stunning views round every corner. The gorge becomes very narrow near its midpoint - you can touch the opposite wall. We went after 5 days of dry weather and the water flows were still good. We entered from the top Austrian end around 9 am The majority of visitors were entering from the lower end so we were on our own until the halfway point. Bus route 1 from Oberstdorf serves the top entrance and is more frequent than the 44 serving the lower entrance.

Beautiful and impressive gorge. Definitely worth visiting no matter what the weather is like. If you choose parking P1 you go up and on your way back you go up. It is opposite if you park at parking P2

We went around 1 in the afternoon and it wasn’t too crowded. It was quite beautiful and peaceful. If I lived close by I would go all of the time.
