Not as difficult as Nahal Amud which is quite close, so perfect for a family or if you're not great walkers.
I'd recommend it if you are driving by and you have time left in your trip, or if you've already done all the other better sites in this region.
Besides, after visiting Tzfat (Safed) this is a different kind of activity to add to your trip making it more enjoyable.

Beautiful hike for the whole family. We were aged 4 to 62 and everyone had a great time. Suggest that you like us make this a late afternoon event in order to stay away from the heat. Most of the track is however shaded.

PROS
* Fantastic scenic views
* Brilliant breathtaking panoramas
* Exciting hiking!

CONS
* Challenging
* Much constant uphill and downhill is not easy either
* It takes a number of hours

“I VISITED THIS PLACE”…
… as part of our Sea-to-Sea Trail hike, along with going on that Israel National Trail (please read my reviews of that and see my photos).

It was great/ it was so much fun- so rewarding, so exhilarating and so fantastic… and so exhausting… I walked over 37,000 steps and 19.8 kilometers that day of 13 hours of hiking.

The views are fantastic- either total lush verdant greenery in every direction and to the horizon, or a fantastic panorama from the overlooks on the peaks.

Hey- we even came across random cows grazing and blocking the narrow one-person-at-a-time hiking trail paths… but they seemed to understand the rules: after the cows and I stared at each other (from my safe distance), they slowly struggled into the bramble and bush so that we could pass.

ADVICES
Of course I recommend doing this hike-

1. Be prepared- depending on how much you choose to do, it can be long and arduous.

2. Hiking boots, backpack, food/water etc

3. There is a campground picnic station at the peak of Mt. Meron (see my photos), where there is a scenic peak loop trail with views- that takes about an hour.

Mout Meron is the highest mountain fully within Israel's borders. It is surrounded by a nature reserve with plenty of hikes, some hardand some easy.

The summit is accessible by car and there is an easy hike around it, with stupendous views in all directions of the Galilee . Other hikes are accessible from the parking lot as are bike trails.

An interesting view is northwards where the border with Lebanon is easily visible - the Israeli side is lush and green while the Lebanese is grey and sandy. See evidence in contrast on how Zionism made the desert bloom. Too bad our neighbours do not wish to profit from our technology or democratic example.

We had a wonderful time on Shvil HaPisga (Peak Trail). The trail took us through a shady forest with beautiful views of the region. Easy hike, not strenous. We were there for about an hour and a half. There were picnic benches nearby.

A very nice trail, in the summit of Mt Merom, easy to walk with a lot of shade and beautiful views and observation points to the south, east and north of the mount, also a very comfortable picnic area next to the parking lot.

It’s a little drive to get in to the trail heads. Definitely worth it. We parked and picnicked. Then we did the Peak Trail. Really fun. Great views. We added on another. Lots of people but didn’t feel crowded.

It was amazing to see all the green oak trees in this rare dense woodland in Israel, also the air is fresh and chill, we also look over Lebanon, Safed and the Sea of the Galilee from the top of the mountain (which i is the highest in Israel). The natural reserve is a home to many endemic plant species and rare wild animals, it's absolutely a "must" trip for nature lovers in Israel.

We didn't have a lot of time to spend here so we just wanted to drive to the top to check out the view.

Google had us drive up a road to the top. We had to drive through an open gate with Hebrew signs which we couldn't read. Anyway, at the end of the road is a small parking area, a big fence, and a soldier who let us know that we had entered a restricted military area! He let us check out the view for a minute and then wished us a good day as we left.

We drove down to another big parking area and up a dirt road which led to an abandoned military facility. It would have been fun to explore, but we just checked out the view from that location and left.

I'm sure that we would have found more to do if we had the time.

Walked the summit trail (1.5 km) with 4 children, easy hike and nice views. There was snow along the trail so it was fun to play, but if not for the snow I would choose a more "interesting" hike in the area.
