Nice way to spend an hour

This isn't too far out of Chiang Mai. You can hire a baht bus to take you there and back and wait an hour or so for you. You'll be able to see the umbrella's being made. In a... read more

This was my third visit to Bo Sang, Chiang Mai's much touted umbrella making village. I was taking visitors from Australia, but was bitterly disappointed. Unlike previous visits, the village now lacks vibrancy. A few shops along the busy and dusty main road have displays of their handicraft hanging outside. These mainly consist of gaudily painted paper umbrellas, or parasols,... More

This isn't too far out of Chiang Mai. You can hire a baht bus to take you there and back and wait an hour or so for you. You'll be able to see the umbrella's being made. In a separate factory, hundreds of umbrella's are on sale as well as fans, artwork and other gifts. For a small fee, you... More

Quirky and creative place to pick up an unusual souvenir - umbrellas. You can sign up to paint your own umbrellas. Or for a minimal fee, pay one of the many artists in the factory to paint any design that you like.

I went here by myself. I had a driver and went to places on my own accord without being taken to places for a commission. I thought it was a great place to visit and came away with some cute umbrellas. Lots of places that are great for a photo shoot around the little village.

We went to one of the larger locations in which the parasols are made, and we were allowed to wander back in the factory area and observe the women making the umbrellas. Fascinating!

We went to the umbrella village with a tour and enjoyed it so much we went back a week later. We bought some mulberry paper to make into lamp shades, and had our cell phone painted by the umbrella artists. The umbrellas themselves are amazingly well crafted and beautifully decorated. A bonus of our second trip - at the end... More

My wife and I returned to the Umbrella Making Centre (1978) Co., Ltd. after 10 years. While the past visit was good before, this visit was great. There were more artisans working at at all the stages for producing umbrellas. Our tour guide explained all the steps in producing the beautiful umbrellas. The workers were friendly and did not mind... More

How wonderful to see these exquisite umbrellas made from scratch, with such great artwork too. We even had lovely designs drawn on our Tilley hats while we were there - so quick as well for only a nominal donation! The shop is full of beautiful umbrellas of all sizes and other gifts, ideal for presents to take home, not expensive... More

We went to bor sang the umbrella village. There are some nice typical thai stores where they sell of sorts of stuff (sxxx) but a few of the larger shops you can see the umbrellas being made. My kids were intruiged by the whole process (6 and 8) and enjoyed it a lot. Also the interraction with staff was great.... More
