An average hiking

If you are in the neighburhood and wants to go hiking then this is a place where you can find several trails around the forest. Mabye it would have been a better experience to hike another trail then to the tarn. The tarn isn’t that nice or special, I’ve seen better. With that said it was nice and easy to take a walk there with the kids (6 and 8) but you need to bring lots of water and mabye some snack. The parking is easy to find with a big sign by the main road and then you just start walking by following the signs up the hill.

hidden place
Apr 2019 • Couples
It´s a really hidden place @nowhere, the valley to the north is really silent - when you search for a bit of nature - an interesting place. Megyer-hegy tarn is a nice walk thru the vineyards, then a bit uphill thru the forest ending at the small lake with nice landscape.
all together it´s worth the walk!

Short hike to the tarn
Jul 2018 • Family
There are 3 hiking routes to the tarn. The longest is 8 km, the shortest is about 2,5 km long (one way). About the shortest one: Bring hiking shoes and water with you because during summertime it can get pretty hot and the the second part of the route is a bit steep. First half is in the open, second is in the woods.

Beautiful hidden place
May 2018 • Couples
First of all, I am happy I saw this place it is beautiful and very special. What I was not expecting was that it is not so easy to get there. To me this was a 6 km and 2 hour walk in the hot sun (including the time spent up by the tarn), but I am pregnant, other people may make this quicker. We parked the car next to the country road, we saw only later that you can drive a bit closer, but in fact, not much, so maybe you can save 600 m if you park in the field. But there is a gate from where the vineyard starts and you have to walk from here; there is no other choice. The road is through a vineyard so there are no trees, you walk in the sun and the road is steep, the tarn is on the top of the hill. Bring a product against mosquitoes with you. The tarn itself is beautiful and you can take nice pictures, I think it worth coming up here.

Very pleasant walk, worth the trip

It was a frosty morning when we walked up to the tarn with a light covering of snow. The most difficult navigation was as you left Sarospatak but it was obvious on the return trip. It's a nice walk through the vineyards and a lovely hidden gem of old mine workings and water. Lots of birdlife around, places for picnics and just a nice secluded location away from the world. It's about a 10km round trip from the town centre.

Nice hike to a hidden area.

Although it can be hard to find (even though there are signs posted) it is worth a visit. The Tarn is beautiful in any season, a not too long hike in the woods takes you right up there. We usually take the dogs up with us and they just love it.

A walk into the mining history of the area
Aug 2017 • Family
We rode our bicycles from downtown Sarospatak to the entrance of the wine fields. Then we walked to the spot. We make it a hike with our 9 year old son. It was around 80F that day. We brought lunch. A nice walk, very scenic and a neat little place to stop for lunch which we packed. IT was a good 1/2 day event.
