Overpriced
Jan 2020 • Friends
Foreigners pay 25 times the price of locals (5000 kyats vs 200 kyats).

Not much to see here. Badly maintained, Indifferent staff. Nothing much to do in Sittwe, so perhaps worth a visit to fight the inevitable boredom. Badly displayed items with signs in bad English. Must leave bags in a locker near the door. Barely worth 200 kyats, much less 5000.

nothing points out what's missing from this museum quite like the burnt-out and boarded-up mosque next door.

Some interesting exhibits - costumes, musical instruments, but dusty and not well displayed, with only basic English. Got the feeling that the whole museum had not been revamped since the Brits left. Entrance fee for foreigners now 5000kyats (5$) for foreigners. Good research library for locals.

Worth seeing on rakhine cultural history
Dec 2015 • Solo
One of the interested places to study history and culture of rakhine race is cultural museum ,situated in sittwe central city.It is worth seeing for a few hours while you are in sittwe. Will be paid 2$ for entrance fee .very easily for local visitors and tourists to go and study without guide.because, everything in museum are written and shown by two language such as English and Myanmar.

How museums shouldn't be
Aug 2015 • Friends
We visited as we were curious about Rakhine culture. The place wad emptynon a Saturday afternoon, we were the only 2 guests.
The museum is terribly old fashioned. The usual dressed puppets and faded pictures. Limited information. All in all very dull.

Not much to see
Feb 2016 • Couples
The museum consists of a few rooms in a rather run-down building with a couple of dioramas, a few coins and other artifacts. The displays evoked a middle-school history report. The highlight of the museum (and it may be worth a brief visit just to see them) were the costumes representing the various ethnic groups of the Rahkine State.

One of few things to do in Sittwe
Nov 2015 • Couples
The museum was one of few things to do in Sittwe, so it's worth the visit if you're there. Not a ton of signs or descriptions in English, but still interesting to see.

Interesting enough

The entrance fee is, indeed, 2000 kyats. Some interesting exhibits spread over two floors. Worth about an hour. Vastly superior to the "museum" in an old monastery (itself in turn an old colonial house) further up Main Street, on the oppsoite side - no entrance fee there...which is appropriate as it's a total waste of time.

This is the best place to understand the history and culture of Rakhine State. Foreigners are allowed to visit, but need to pay entrance fee, this might be 2000 Kyats (around 2 USD)
