Bustling and vibrant market
Mar 2019
This is my favourite place to spend time in Sittwe. There is so much going on at this bustling and vibrant place and you can always discover something new. The market comes into life very early in the morning at around 6 AM. This is also the best moment to go to the jetty right behind the market where fishers bring their daily catch. The fish market is quite interesting, particularly the dried fish (see pictures), look also out for the banana shop. The market is overall a very hectic place with lots of goods being transported by porters on carts or shoulders through a network of extremely narrow lanes. Be careful to not stand in their way, dress modestly, be friendly and smile at people - they will smile back!

Unwelcome
Jan 2019 • Couples
My girlfriend and I did not like this place one bit. We are both aware that it is a conservative place but the looks and jeers made it quite apparent that we were not welcome. People being interested because we look different is one thing but this was blatantly meant to make us feel uncomfortable. If you can avoid it, don't come here. Felt nothing but love and hospitality from both Yangon and especially Ngapali.

Not one of the best
Jan 2018 • Couples
Compared to other markets in similar sized towns, we were less than impressed with the market in Sittwe. The produce did not look as fresh and there were so many motorbikes that it was hard to get around.

All in One for daily stuff in Sittwe, Rakhine State of Myanmar
Aug 2015 • Business
I was in Sittwe for a long term development mission in 2015. I had to buy daily stuff related to my kitchen and bed room. I found all essential stuff there that required for daily life. You enjoy in morning time seeing a large number of local people who visit to buys vegetables, fishes, meat, rice and flowers. This reflects an amazing social life of Sittwe epeopl.

In central market, you can buy traditional dress and they are reasonable. But some are expensive and you can fell the taste of traditional people. I buy a lot of things in central market and it only takes 10 to 15 minutes to get to the view point.

Not too big, interesting dried fish section

It's well worth seeing for its weird dried fish selection. RIght in the middle of town so easy to get.

experience shop in central market in Sittwe
Aug 2015 • Family
The Market is same like other traditional market in south asia countries. The different is experience bargain the price and how you can see many people floods to the market everyday. The bargain techniques is showing money to seller how much money you need to pay? sometimes you have difficulty to differentiate between 100 and 200 kyatt due almost same.

The market is always full with people and highly recommended to go shop before 8 AM in the morning. The market is built by British and renovated/rehabilitated by Myanmar Government on 1956. Unfortunately, you can see little British architecture remained in the building.

An interesting and lively place
Jul 2014 • Friends
It is best to visit this market in the morning as you stand a chance to see the fishermen landing at the jetty bringing in their catch of the day. They usually auction their catch right at the jetty. It is interesting to see how the buyers bid. The best time of the year to visit Arakan or whole of Myanmar is in the dry season from November to March.
