Mauricio is a really likeable guy and an excellent surf guide/instructor. Based on his recommendation we booked a full day lesson and it was absolutely the right decision. The day of the lessons Mauricio promptly came and picked us up at our hotel in El Tunco at the arranged time and drove us to Playa San Blas. Since we had absolutely zero experience surfing, Mauricio and our other instructor were extremely patient with us going through all the safety rules and surfing mechanics. When we started in the morning the tide was fairly high and it could have been intimidating to get in the water but thanks to their consistent feedback and encouragement, the experience, though fairly tiring, was a lot of fun. By the end of the first session we were pretty exhausted, getting our butts kicked by the waves, and it was time for a delicious Salvadorian lunch, a couple of cervezas and quick snooze at a lovely beach side restaurant.
As Mauricio had promised, the second session was way better, the tide was lower, the water was not as choppy and we were finally getting the hang of the technique. It was magically less tiring than the morning session too and we hardly got out of the water at all during the second session. Another great thing about Mauricio is that he was not at all a stickler for time and he let us enjoy the surf to our hearts content before we wrapped up for the day.
All in all it was a fantastically fun day and I'd recommend Mauricio to anyone who is in El Tunco and wants to pick up surfing.

El Salvador is a hidden gem for Surfing and Mauricio knows all the spots. Mauricio was with us at all time, guiding and recommending, and also teaching us about El Salvador, which he is very proud of. I recommend Mauricio for Surf Adventures in El Salvador so you know for sure that where you going is going to be GREAT!

A day 1 travel disaster found us stuck at the SAL airport with an unexpected 14 hour layover. With no safe place to store luggage, and no plans for tours, we could’ve easily wasted the full day doing nothing. Enter Mauricio, who responded to our tour query within half an hour and picked us for literally a full day of sun, surf, local eats, and exploration. Having him show us around was like meeting up with an old friend in a new country. We felt safe everywhere we went, and he accommodated us above and beyond our expectations as we added to our on-the-fly itinerary. He saved our vacation day and we are so grateful that he was there for us! Thank you Mauricio!

The surf in El Salvador is amazing. Mauricio knows all the breaks and understands how conditions effect each spot. He will put you in position to catch the wave of your life or pop up for the first time. Accessing the surf can be tricky due to El Salvador's rocky coast. Having a local guide is essential to match the break with your skills and avoid injury. Mauricio is the guide I recommend.

I took a last minute trip to El Salvador while between jobs. My goal was to learn to surf. Little did I know that I was going to have one of the most amazing trips of my life, discover an incredible country, and make a great friend.
Mauricio knows El Salvador inside and out. He speaks fluent English, his commitment to safety is unparalleled, and his friendly demeanor and vibe are a reflection on the friendliness of Salvadoreans. Transport that he provides is clean and comfortable.
Beaches, volcanoes, rivers, city life in San Salvador, restaurants, lakes. A hot spring fed waterfall. There is a reason why I hired Mauricio for a week to start my trip and ended up hiring him as a private guide for almost a month.
If you are considering going to El Salvador: go. It is safe and amazing. If you go to El Salvador: hire Mauricio. While his expertise is surfing but I encourage you to also ask him about the other amazing things that El Salvador has to offer. Mauricio will show you the way.

Mauricio is an absolutely top-notch surf coach and guide who really went out of his way to give me the best possible surfing experience in El Salvador.
I contacted Surf and Trips El Salvador super last minute as I decided I wanted to explore additional breaks away from the main locations near where I was staying in Sunzal. Mauricio was incredibly responsive and was able to get me a quote and book two mornings of surf coaching and guiding within a few minutes of me starting the conversation. I'm really glad I went with him and I can't wait to come back and go for a longer time.
I've been surfing for a while but sadly live far from the water now and am out of shape. Mauricio's thoughtful selection of the right spots and careful instructions and guidance were super encouraging and inspirational. He had me feeling much better about my surfing after just a short time and showed me some great spots I would not have found on my own. He's very supportive, friendly, humble, and dedicated to maximizing your experience.
I've had surf guiding before in Asia, but I was really blown away with Mauricio's attention to detail. He fastidiously follows your every move with his go pro and provides instant and valuable analysis, plus cool videos. Truly excellent coaching.
If you're thinking of getting a surf coach/guide in El Salvador don't waste your time looking further. He's the best, and you will have an awesome experience.

I was a little nervous about trying to surf but Mauricio was the best most helpful and considerate teacher. I felt completely safe and looked after and actually found surfing to be the most fun ever! I even managed to stand up on the board in my first lesson. Mauricio is a super cool friendly guy who speaks English perfectly. He also takes his go pro with him to your lesson and takes awesome videos and photos which he promptly sends to you. Cannot recommend this experience enough!

Due to some travel issues we booked a very last minute week with Mauricio. He had less than 24 hours notice to plan a full week of accommodations and surf for 2 of us, and he did a fantastic job.
We started out with a few days in El Tunco surfing El Sunzal. Then we headed down the coast to Las Flores and surfed there for the rest of the week.
Mauricio has great knowledge of surfing and El Salvador as a whole. He is extremely focused on making sure his clients are safe, and having a great time. Compared to a typical surf camp holiday, this takes it to the next level with a private guide. He arranged all food, hotels, and transport and ensured we got 2 surf sessions each day.
Mauricio is a small operation that has the potential to be one of the best in the country. I highly recommend working with him on your next visit to explore and surf El Salvador. Thanks Mauricio!

I looked around at surf instructors in the area and wanted someone who knew the ocean well, was competent, and placed safety first. After all, the Americans have their panties in a bunch about the safety of El Salvador's beaches. It pays to be cautious.
Boy was I glad I went with Mauricio. First off he's an excellent instructor. Doesn't muck about. Walks you through all the safety aspects and then goes over some basics. Then it's off to the waves, and he'll start you off in whitewash that's about waste deep and that you'll actually be able to surf. It's the perfect introduction to surfing. On the first day, I managed to stand up and hold it for some seconds. On the second day, even more so. Not only was he able to get me surfing fairly quick, but he also provided tips as I was going along so that I learned. To top it all off, we even brought a GoPro and sorted me out with some epic footage from the day. Honestly, you could just hire him to be your photographer/videographer and you'd be amazed at how epic his editing skills are. As a solo traveler, this small touch really made my trip.
One other thing to mention. He doesn't take you out where a bunch of people are watching you make a fool of yourself. He takes you to the nicest sandiest beach with low traffic where you can practice without bruising your male ego or your ribs.
There are plenty of blokes walking around who claim they're surf instructors but go for the real thing. Mauricio is a good guy you can trust and who can help you with whatever you need. He's a lot of fun to chat with and just someone who you'll be very happy to have available if you need something. Couldn't recommend this experience enough. It's value for money.

We cannot express our gratitude enough! Mauricio was an absolute pleasure & we would recommend him to absolutely anyone visiting El Salvador. He is a true local & was so proud to show off his beautiful country. He does it all! From teaching us to surf, showing us the Mayan ruins, to visiting waterfalls... we had the absolute best time. Mauricio was very professional, knowledgable, quick in response, & most of all, he was so catering & accommodated all our needs. We have a new friend in El Sal!
