Easy to access by car or bus 545 or 559 from Chatswood. We accessed the Lane Cove National ParkPark via entrance off Lady Game Drive. Lovely expansive wide grass and bush areas with some paved walking tracks overlooking the Lane Cover River. There's a cafe on site and a small playground. Very leafy and an enjoyable pleasant environment with birds and wild bush turkeys roaming around.

The accessible part near the weir is very noisy (overshadowed by a main road, I don't enjoy picnics here) and has roads all through it, even to the extent that some parts don't have footpaths and force you to walk on a road. As soon as you get out of that area, though, there's a great valley to explore. Heading north, you quickly get into dense bushland and difficult, rocky paths - only problem is that the next river crossing is at the horrid De Burghs Bridge, making for a 10km/3hr loop back to the weir. You can of course follow the Great North Walk all the way north to the far-flung parts of the national park near Thornleigh and Pennant Hills. Going south, you can walk to Hunters Hill via the lowlands with vast stretches of mangroves - only problem here is the flight path overhead.

Lane Cove National Park is a real oasis in this concrete jungle, easily accessible & plenty of open spaces to relax with family & friends...a real gem...weekends can be crowded but worth it

A great place to find a shady tree and sit with family and friends. We took the kids up for a paddle on the row boats and canoes at the boat shed. Then we hit up the walking tracks and plenty of birds, flora and nice to feel the coolness of the bush. Nothing like the smell and sounds of the Australian bush.

Make a day of it and take a picnic. Some of the walks are spectacular and it's in the middle of the North Shore of Sydney so very easy to get to and parking is plentiful.

Really well kept National park in the middle of a busy city and you feel a million miles away from the city. Has heaps of bbq areas, parking and toilets. Only cost $8 per car per day. Can hire boats $50 and good walkways

This park is larger than it looks. When you drive, if a nice place is busy then just keep going you are likely to find another place less busy. It can get busy on a sunny winter day, being so close to the city. Bring you picnic rug and ball, and enjoy the scenery. I sometimes think how could the city be so much nicer 100 years back when all of its surroundings were like that!
