About
Marina Cocibolca is located on Asese Bay, right accross from the famous Isletas and with Mombacho Volcano on its same shoreline. The Marina is a hub for tourism attractions in the area and for exciting, yet safe, watersports, including kayaking, canoeing, and stand up paddle boarding. Speed boats and jet skis can be rented and Zapatera Island and Ometepe can be accessed in half an hour and two hours, respectively. The Marina has one of the best rated restaurants in the Granada area, and other restaurants in the Isletas with intriguing cuisine are 15 or 20 minutes away. Forests in the Marina's unique surroundings and nearby areas are ecologically well preserved with strong avian and other fauna activity. Tours to La Calera Private Reserve, 15 minutes away by boat, offer birdwatching and horseback riding through cacao plantations, as well as swimming at the property's thermal waters. From its Casa Hacienda, at 350 meters altitude, viewing Mombacho's total outline so close one feels it can almost be grasped, while on the opposite side there is a full view of Asese Penninsula sorrouded by the Isletas. Further South along the Lake, only half an hour away, is Zapatera Island with all its ancient archeological wealth. Hotel Santa Maria there offers all modern conforts and its well regarded drink "Passion for Zapatera". Rural communities located just accross from Zapatera, along beautiful spots on Cocibolca's lakefront, such as Charco Muerto Cooperative, offer dramatic views of the coastline and the chance to taste one of the best guapotes, taken out of the water just for the visitor.

Largest lake in Central America. There are 365 islands or Isletas. Some very small some quite large. Ometepe, Zapatera, onkey island are the famous ones. You have the iconic volcano peaks in the background. Good amount of wildlife including Monkeys, eagles etc. Very scenic and worth a boat ride

Many things to find and do here. We launched our kayaks and upon return, went to the mini shop where other services were offered. There are also drinks and coconut treats. It is also a refueling point for the boats where there is a gas pump. It could get really busy at certain times of the day. When we left for the kayak, it was early and it was not busy. When we returned, close to lunch, it was very busy. There are also potty stops. TA is always asking if wheel chair accessible or pet friendly. I do not pay attention to that because I do not have that need so I am unable to answer.

I did a tour of the Isletas through the company I took spanish lessons with. It was a great opportunity to see all the little private islands, the cottages and house on them. Your boat captain (they are small skiffs) will point out the rock that grew into the tree and the island where the monkeys' live. It's a must see during the day if you find yourself in Granada.

at the marina, there are several isletas. On one of them, someone had the great idea to capture and leave a monkey... the animal is non-stop trying to escape and does continous round of the isleta. Let the animal go.

Actually, the Marina has nothing to do with the captured monkey. However, we are trying to convince the boat owner who does to liberate him. Thanks for your opinion.

We arrived by car from Managua, on the way to SJDS, for a night out on the isletas. Were pleasantly surprised to see a restaurant so we could have a beer waiting for the boat. The general location is attractive and calm.

Take a taxi from the parque square in Granada to the restaurant, order yourself a Tona and some lunch then hire a ponga (small boat) for $20 for the hour to take you around the hundreds of islands in Lake Nicaragua. Swimming here is not recommended but you might see local kids having a swim. There are fresh water sharks in the lake and who knows what else. The bird life in the islands is wonderful!

A great place to rent a launch and see the BAY side of the Islands with Mombacho towering over you. A safe place to park and cool place to wait your turn. When clear - you can see Ometepe in the distance.

We actually motored around the marina in a boat which we had boarded elsewhere. Seeing it from the perspective of the water was interesting, as we saw other boaters, and lots of avian life. There are plenty of places to eat and drink around the marina, and you can arrange a trip to tour the isletas, which is highly recommended. This is a pretty place, whether on water or land.

I spent nine days in Nicaragua so my family and I saw a lot. This is one of the place that stood out on our trip. The tour guide was really cool. Let us play our music on the boat. Lol

the little marina at cocibolca is where you get on the boat and can go tour through the isletas. it is pretty and scenic, but not a ton of tourist services there. Most people have a tour booked and then are brought to the marina, although im sure you could just show up here and get on any of the tours for a small fee. Thats probably how i would do it the next time if i happen to come to granada again in the future.

Thanks for your review, Rob. Your idea of booking tours directly is a good one. That is why the Marina developed its own tour operator, Aventura Tours, which can make reservations for most of the atractions around the Asese Bay and the Isletas. Please contact Ledis, Aventura´s manager, at admon.aventuratours@gmail.com for more informatio or to make reservations. Please copy me at rlacayos@gmail.com Thanks, Raúl
