Mitad del Mundo is a great way to spend and afternoon in Quito. Not the true equator line but a really nice monument and park, none the less. Be sure not to miss the nearby Intiñan Museum, which sits exactly at 0 latitude.

Its a nice place to investigate. Has a few shops with nice local art and foods. You can get a real ecudorian special there, roasted guinea pig😮. Its well worth the short drive out of the city. Nice local fruit markets on the way. Great...More

sure, for the price you pay you will access a good place to have some decent food, see some interesting exhibits and enjoy a nice view. But several of the "experiments" they have on the tower are more simulations rather than real experiments, Just the...More

History of French search for equator is here but they missed it by 100 meters. Good restaurants and colorful native dancing but overrated. I prefer the real equator at Intanan museum 5 minutes walk north.

Glad I came, I almost didn't after reading some of the reviews. Agree you don't have to take a tour. Just grabed and cab and negotiated the rate to stay with us for five hours He took us to Mitad and Ortega museum for $45....More

Its well short of an hour from Quito proper and well worth the trip out. The city has done a phenomenal job preserving yet sprucing up the interior of this location, and the iconic Mitad del Mundo, with its yellow equator line running the length,...More

Balancing an egg upside down on the head of a nail and weighing yourself to see the effects of how this differs from the great white north or just the beginning. Super indigenous museum inside of the Monument to the Equator.

This is a beautiful monument and park celebrating 0.00 latitude. It is a MUST SEE in Ecuador. Probably the most significant geographical site. Plenty of little shops, local dancers, photo opportunities, souvenirs, and....the egg balancing nail. If you are patient, you can balance an egg,...More

This attraction is one you should go to just to say you were there. It had some interesting displays, but I found it just a little boring. There are some nice shops. And there are some good restaurants...so I guess there's something for everyone. Nice...More

Mitad del Mundo is a must-see when visiting Quito, although there is some controversy. There are actually two separate locations to visit. One build by the French and one built by the native people. The one with the big monument seems to be the most...More

There is! In fact, that's part of the tour. The line at the museum is the actual line, calculated by both the ancient Indian tribes and by GPS. We did both locations during our tour of the line, and the Initian museum was... More
