The above picture is not of Kittur fort.It is Kamal Basti's picture.Kittur fort is almost 35-40kms from Dharwad as well as Belagavi.Rani Channamma, wife of King Mallasarja, the then ruler of this Province, fought against the Britishes. It is a ruined fort monument.Least cared by the Archeological survey of India.

A place with a story
Nov 2018 • Family
The place is around 60 kms from Hubli and the nearest airport is Belgavi airport
The place has a great history but the place was taken to the archeological dept so late that almost everything was taken away by the locals and some organizations
There is a glimpse of a palace which definitely needs a guide who could explain the great architecture of this amazing palace. Just ask the nearby security to guide you. There is a museum which has the leftovers of the cracked doors stones inscriptions and many more
This place needs scope so that government can improve this place
Give this a visit if you are nearby

A histrionic place

Kittur fort on the way from Hubli to Belgaum in Karnataka.
It has become my fort visit of 111th in India, 336th in the world.

The history matters.
13th century kingdom to the freedom fight by Rani Channamma Kittur in 19th century.
I felt that.

Now, it’s a peaceful park.

BTW, don’t mix up Kittur fort and Belgaum Fort.
Belgaum fort is in the city of Belgaum, while Kittur fort is between Hubli and Belgaum.

1. Fort has the remains of palace with each place indicating its significance.
2. There is a museum which was closed when we visited due to public holiday.
3. Not a must visit place.
4. There is no entry fee.
5. There is ample car parking.

Kittur, also known as Kitturu and historically as Kittoor, is a taluka in the Belgaum district of the South Indian state of Karnataka.Kittur is a fort located in the Karnataka state of India, it is the former capital of a minor principality as well as a major archaeological site. It was held by the Desai marathas of Kittur, as well as Rani Chennamma, a lingayat woman warrior of Karnataka who revolted against the British in 1824. Kittur reached its zenith during the Mallasarja Desai. The place has a Nathapanthi matha in police line area, and temples of Maruti, Kalmeshwara, Dyamavva and Basavanna, the last named a later Chalukyan monument now completely renovated.
