Culture in the city
Dec 2019 • Couples
We visited Belgaum fort whilst saying in the city for 4 nights. The fort itself is set in several acres. We had an Indian driver who unfortunately was unable to explain much as he English was quite limited. The temple buildings are very ancient with exquisite carvings and detail. It was just a shame that the area was not kept in a better condition. As foreigners the information about the site was limited. One if the temples was closed when we arrived. With a visit with a knowledgeable Indian guide, a shame the the current regime does not utilise this historic building to its full potential.

This is the place we grown up visiting 😆😆
Since it is under the Military, maintenance is best in class. It has Durga Mandir & Ramkrishna mission ashram.

Old fort
Jun 2019 • Business
This is very old fort - mostly in a poor situation. Must have been a great site when it was originally built.

It is an outing place for Belgaumites. The fort comes under the Military territory but still we have a Durga Mata Mandir, Kamal basti & Ramkrishna mission centre.

An Old Fort
Mar 2019 • Solo
This is an old crumbling fort inside the area called Fort or Old Fort in the city of Belagavi.

The structure of the fort itself is not apparent for a visitor. One has to go inside the fort walls to see remnants of the fort.

At present the entire area is taken over by the army. Some parts are off limits to the general public. A few areas are open. Entry to the fort itself is not restricted.

Upon visiting the fort I found a Dargah inside a crumbling compound wall.

There is temple opposite to this wall. They are separated by about 200 mts.

Both the Dargah and temple are active with people visiting them.

Further down the road there is an Ashram.

After that there is an old Jain temple complex. This complex has two temple structures in very good conditions and devotees visit it regularly for pooja. This Jain temple is also active with regular religious activities.

I did not visit the ashram.

I would suggest that one park their car / bike near the Dargah and visit the Dargah and the temple. Later one can drive to the ashram and the Jain temple complex.

If one walks out of the gate which is opposite the Dargah and beyond the Hindu temple, one will end up on a busy road close to a big lake.

Then, one can walk and explore the lake ( I did not ) and the market area near the bus station.

Enjoy Belagavi!
