Historic church

Nice church, you should visit if you are at the historic center. It's in walking distance from the train station, so it's worth visiting if you came from Tiradentes.

Surrounded by cobblestone this colonial church constructed in the 1700's is a great example of churches of that era. The gilding isn't overly done and all the work done inside is very interesting. The grounds are nicely done as well.

A beautiful brazilian baroque church, probably one of the most incredible manifestations of this style, which is prominent in the historic cities of Minas Gerais. Its original design is credited to Aleijadinho, definitely the better-known architect/artisan of the colonial period. For architecture lovers, it is definitely a remarkable experience and is full of works of art inside, such as religious... More

This Church is trully fantastic, especially if you do the visit with the guide. The smallest details are explained in the works that decorate the internal and external church, paintings, statues, furniture, etc. Next to the church there is a small cemetery with the grave of Tancredo Neves. Very worth the visit.

This is another fine example of colonial architecture on the church tour of Sao Joao del Rei. If you have a chance to see a big event like a wedding or Easter celebration here don't miss it. Great pomp and circumstance. At night the front of the church is illuminated, but it needs some burned bulbs replaced to once more... More

It's great, stunning. This church is very big, and the ornaments in gold are astonishing. It' worth seeing. Maravilhosa! A igreja é muito grande e ornamentada em ouro. Vale a pena ser visitada.

beautiful, but it´s difficult to find it open. On Sundays you can watch classic music during the mass. At the back there is a cemetery where a dear president of Brazil is buried.

I've been visiting a lot of churches in Ouro Preto and Sao Joao del Rei and definitively this is the most beautiful that I have ever seen! Very preserved, with huge cristal chandeliers. It is free to visit it. Go at night! In addition, there is a small square in front of the church with pubs and small restaurants with... More
