Cat Ba National Park is a small park with a nature scene of trees, plants, and flowers. The flower valley is located right next to the park, and it is very small valley for pictures. Prepare for a 1Km hike from the bottom to the...More

The boatman took us through the islands to show us the unique rock structures and caves. We rowed through one of the larger caves and saw the duck caves so low only ducks could swim through. The islands comprise the National park and protected against...More

The peaks take about 40 minutes to hike up to on easily marked trails and the views are truly stunning and worth the effort.

We booked our hike through Cat Ba ventures. Our guide Tuan was extremely informative. We learned about the flora and fauna of the parl plus some history relating to the war. A good hike, go in the morning before it gets too hot. We are...More

If you enjoy climbing things and have never seen trees before then the walk is OK, otherwise it is just a hard climb up a concrete path and steps through a litter strewn area of fairly average forest. The view from the top is good...More

Beautiful trek in the national park, there is an entrance fee about 2 USD, no need in any additional guides, if you can step in to the jungle and a climb a little - its a nice experience for a half day tour. You can...More

Yeah I saw people on our ferry with motorbikes and scooters, I'm not sure how much it would cost or whether you need to get the ticket somewhere else

I have no idea but I heard they were saved from a worse place or are mentally damaged and a danger to others if let loose or in cages with other animals so I think it's the lesser of 2 evils

Advice on Lan Ha Bay and Cat Ba National Park (6 Replies)
Hi, My girlfriend and I are going to Vietnam for the first time in March and will be spending a few days in the Cat Ba/Lan Ha Bay area. I have a few questions about this: 1. Where is the best place to find reliable times for the hydrofoil from Hai Phong to Cat Ba? We'll be arriving in Hai Phong at 10am, and I've found one website that says there's a hydrofoil at 11 and another that says there isn't one until 1pm. 2. Is it better to do an overnight cruise around the bay or just a day...More

Thanks - I actually contacted Cat Ba Ventures after posting this and they were very helpful in sending me the times for the hydrofoil. They are more frequent than Seat 61 says, fortunately. I'll try and remember to report back on how it all went afterwards!

Cristina Cruise vs Dragon Pearl for 3D2N? (11 Replies)
Hi. I'm gonna travel alone to the North and I've been doing research for my option to Ha Long Bay. Which of these itinerary look good and affordable? My budget is tight but I don't mind paying a little extra for an unforgeable experience. Thanks for reading and feel free to recommend other cruises. 3D2N all on boat - Dragon Pearl $160 Day 1: Ha Noi - Ha Long - Sung Sot/Heavenly Palace cave (L/D) Day 2: Ha Long - Lan Ha Bay (full day of kayaking) (B/L/D) Day 3: Ha Long - Ha Noi $120 ...More

I just finished my 2nd trip on Christina. Basic budget cruise which was fine for me. Food was good and the crew was nice. 2 day 1 night is what I recommend as too much shuffling around from boat to boat and you don't stay with your group. Some of the charm is lost as all the boats are painted white now (saftey issues I was told) and not many of the boats had their sails up which makes for a beautiful display. All the boats harbor together in the evening too.

National Park/Hospital Cave/Fort Cannon in one day? (0 Replies)
Hey everyone! Im planning to go to Halong Bay & Cat Ba island this June with a bunch of friends. Just need some help with the planning and itinerary from anyone who has been there before. So I plan to be in that region for 4 days really, of which maybe 1 day is allocated to be in Cat Ba Island seeing places there. Im wondering if it's doable to cover the National Park, Hospital Cave and Fort Cannon within a day. Will that be stretching it too much and everything will be too rushed?...More
