It's officially closed
Jul 2020 • Family
As of today this place is officially closed. You can sneak in by paying taxi drivers extra, but don't expect much.Apart from the overview of the town, there isn't much.

Strangest place
Mar 2020 • Couples
We visited on a grey day for something to do. 40,000 dong per person to visit and a long old walk until you get to the "main" part. We had a moped, luckily. Theres a few "attractions"that are from the wars here, quite weird and not worth the trip really. The whole place had an air of not being well maintained, an abandoned feel to the whole place. And the toilets were fully abysmal. We took the whole thing to be a bit of an "experience" but really would recommend you dont bother visiting.

What are the opening times?
Mar 2020 • Couples
We were at the gate 3pm and it was closed. Then a man came and opened it but told us we couldn’t come in. Soon after that a couple exited and said they been visiting for two hours.
Sun sets at 6pm so there would have been plenty of time for us to visit. Disappointing.

Not open to some tourists it seems!
Mar 2020 • Couples
We walked up to the gate of Cannon Fort at 1430hrs and was told by 2 tourists on the way down that the ticket man had to leave but would come back and maybe let people in.

We waited about 20 minutes and two men arrived, told us and by this time 3 other tourists that Cannon Fort was closed as its a military base. Just as we turned around to walk back we saw two tourists come out of Cannon Fort. We asked them how they got in and they said they were let in at the same gate about 2 hours ago.

Basically try your luck, i think depending on who is at the gate you may get in.

Seems very strange...its a nice place for tourists and they make money on entrance fees. From what our hotel told us, tourism is down in Vietnam by 50% due to coronavirus so you'd think they would let us all go and see the Fort.

Nice island

The exhibits have grown to be the main draw for me; I was a lot more excited about the perspective from the very best than the exhibits. The staff smartly installed the ticket booth rather a distance prior to the main exhibit area after which created sure the select regions which supply a bird's eye view of the bay are situated After the ticket booth thus visitors who simply want to value the organic scenery carry on and be made to buy the 60,000 Dong entry fee of the fort. You are skilled to record a little appearance of the ocean or perhaps islets at any part in the procedure prior to the ticket booth. The point of view on top is very excellent although I am going to describe it as very impressive. The ticket stubs are made up of 3 portions - one of the entry, an individual to exchange for a pot of water together with a single for using the binoculars in the pinnacle. I did notice these different places as well as furthermore, the employees that examined the tickets in the peak tore away all of those second two stubs The so called cafe up there is just a blank gap in the framework established type up. It's an extremely short and very simple enough hike from town (probably 20 minutes one of the ways on foot?) and hotel staff members has the capacity to supply you with many easy instructions being there.

Beautiful but not what it used to be
Jan 2020 • Friends
The scenery from the top is beautiful. A year ago there used to be a nice restaurant, however that is gone and the place is obstructed with chair, tables and rubbish everywhere.

Worth to try!!!
Jan 2020 • Solo
The place is officially closed. There is an issue between government and military apparently. That's the reason. I have asked the locals.
Anyway, if you are lucky, the gate might be open. Sneak in. I have managed that. Be aware of the "military" House on your right, maybe 1km away from the gate. They might try to stop you and send back. If you keep quiet and walk passed, if no one see you, you can walk further and admire the views as well as the bunkers, tunnel etc. The views are stunning.
It's worth to sneak in. Could be easier on the motorbike tho.

Don't pay if you don't get an entrance ticket
Jan 2020 • Couples
The view from the fort is definetly worth it.
My advice: ask to recieve a ticket at the entrance. When I was there yesterday, the guy didn't want to give me one. My feeling was that he is not anyone officially working there, but just collecting the money to keep it for himself. I refused to pay and entered for free.
It's not about the money (it's not expensive), I just don't think it's good to support this kind of behaviour.

Closed but there is another route to get the view
Dec 2019 • Friends
Cannon fort was closed when we were there. It looks as though there is a big hotel being built at the location.
Our hotel gave us directions to see a similar view which was really good if a little steep at times. The route we took was full of beautiful butterflies and very scenic. Well worth the, walk out from cat ba town
