We stayed in Viet Hai Village about five km cycle ride from the harbour. It is a very easy flat cycle ride. One reviewer below mentioned hills... We didn't experience any but maybe a couple of very slight gradients. Beautiful national park.

We went here briefly as part of a Halong bay cruise, and only had a couple of hours on the island. It is very picturesque with many things to do, particularly for nature lovers or adventurous types. We visited a typical village to see how...More

The nature and the rocks are completely wonderful and great, even if it was not a sunny day. So just do it !

Cat Ba is a fairly quiet island and is a good way to get to visit Halong bay without joining in with all the crowds. The Cannon Fort above Cat Ba town is worth the climb as it has great views over the bay

The town in Cat Ba is not that nice, food is terrible, and the people are arrogant and trying just to sell you stuff. Not impressed at all. A waste of time and money coming here.

The one-day boat tours through the casts and floating villages is a very unique experience - the kayaking through estuaries and through caves really fun. The island is cheap (try the beer at the commercial harbour entrance - so worthwhile!

Cat Ba island is excellent place for kayaking, hiking, trekking and nice beach. Cruising the Lan Ha bay is one of the must. However, the winter is pretty cold.

The crowd was mainly younger. With a loud nightclub like restaurant in the middle of the shopping strip and tons of local hiking and activities like rock-climbing and kayaking. The island is basically a strip of shops along a shore. It is about 20 minutes...More

The island is really good, there is a lot to on the island from kayaking, climbing, trekking and various other sports. The only thing that I didn't like was the people on the island are always overcharging you and can be aggressive.

Many hotels can arrange cruise trips. We just took a local ferry from Ben Beo to Halong City which was a day cruise in itself.
