A great little side trip on our way from Auckland to Rotorua. Great experience and easy hike. Very empty in afternoon hours with just a few other people visiting. Bridge does not swing much, but crossing the river at that height is amazing. Tip: Google maps directions were wrong and got us to the area of the bridge, but not to the carpark. To get to the carpark you need to go through the village.

Really cool swing bridge in the middle of nowhere over a gushing river!
It’s a really easy walk down a slight hill to the bridge, which takes about 5 or so minutes to walk across.
Very picturesque spot!
You can turn right when you cross the bridge and so an easy loop back to the car park to make it a bit of a longer journey.

Well worth a visit!

Well populated with a solid concrete path to walk down to the bridge. Once you get there what a view with the sound of the running water far below. Make sure to walk the bridge and take in the view. Awesome.

Located south of cambridge this is a perfect drive looping around lake Karapiro, stopping at the suspension bridge for a picnic.

The bridge was built for the workers to access the power station during its construction, spanning 152 meters over the gorge it is quite impressive, definitely worth a visit combined with a road trip of the area.

It is swing bridge, or to be precise a suspension bridge, hanging to the steel wires over the water down below. It is good and has historical value, built nearly 100 years ago. The 152-metre suspension bridge was built in the mid-1920s to allow workers from the village of Arapuni to access the power station construction site. If you coincidentally pass this road, it is worth to stop for a while, admire the bridge and the construction technology behind it nearly 100 years ago. Have a stretch and strolling cross the bridge see the scenic views at the surrounding area, take photos. This bridge is a part of Waikato River Trails, which is section of the New Zealand Cycle Trail.

Just a short walk from the car park in Arapuni takes you to this swing bridge, with a good view over the Waikato river and it's impressively steep sides, as well as a view of a power station which is a heritage site and was camouflaged during the second world war. Public toilets conveniently located nearby and a walking and cycling path. Plus check out a lovely little named Rhubarb if you're in Arapuni!

Spectacular swing bridge, with great views of the Waikato churning a very long way underneath. No one else there when we were there. Never did find the toilets, but no matter. When you get sick of being in the tourist loop, this is a great diversion. Good bush views. A great safe challenge for those amongst us (me) not keen on heights. Free.

Confused by a few things.
Firstly I followed the sign "Swing bridge & walkway parking" to nowhere. Eventually back-tracked and realized I had to turn off onto a metal track, parked under a tree and walked thru a gap in the hedge to get to the entrance of the swing bridge.
Secondly I read several reviews that said toilets and a drinking fountain ... didn't see those even when I walked up the path to the main road (then back to my car). Maybe it was to the side of the path entrance?

The swing bridge is great, the view and surrounding bush is pure NZ. The sound of the rushing water is surprisingly loud.
Don't forget to read the history board (why they camouflaged the building during the war). It is located at the actual entrance on the rise to your right.
I noticed this area is well used by cyclists.

I have lived in Wellington for over 40 years and driven Highway 1 along the Waikato River many times and never knew this bridge existed. The bridge itself is interesting but best of all provides great views of the Waikato and one of New Zealand’s oldest hydro generation plants (commissioned in 1929). Well worth a stop and a walk.

We had trouble finding it but were rewarded by a walk over and back when we did. Very scenic views from the bridge and it was very stable. Glad I didn’t bring my horse!
