A surprise gem
Jun 2021 • Couples
What a surprising gem of beauty. We were staying at Gilsborough Hall hotel and found this absolutely beautiful little village. The grounds are vast with children play area and picnic tables and a woodland trail. The museum entrance is free and tells the history of the steel mining. There is a little gift shop and although not open at present, a cafe. A short stroll takes you to the Owl sanctuary which is also very much worth a visit with a great variety of birds and other small creatures. We noticed the Walled Garden but this wasn’t open although there were people working on it which suggests it may soon be open to the public. A beautiful spot not to be missed.

Lovely day out
Oct 2020 • Family
Just a short walk from Kirkleatham museum, free car parking in museum. 50p for a small tub of bird feed for the birds out of cages. Small but pleasant gift shop. Plenty of hand washing places. On the bird cages there’s information about where the bird comes from, their diet etc. Nice day out for the family and picnic benches round the entrance.

Great value for money and such a lovely little friendly place. The flying display was so good and interesting and the guy who ran it was very good. We learned a lot even though we have visited many similar places. It is so worth seeing.

Brilliant experience

We attended the twilight owl experience and really enjoyed ourselves. We had a guided tour of the centre, watched owls flying, handled smaller owls.....and had a lovely bowl of soup! The staff were amazing and so dedicated to the birds. Highly recommended

Amazing value
Aug 2019 • Family
We had a brilliant couple of hours here. £10 admission for a family of four. Well worth it when you look at the price of other activities. The kids even got a small animal plaster cast to paint on site. The signage is informative & the range of birds is diverse. The bird display was fun & thrilling. The keeper made sure everyone had a good up close view. There’s a strange collection of chickens & doves. Also meerkats, mongoose & porcupines. My kids loved being able to touch some of the babies including a baby snowy owl. The pelicans even found their way back to their cage after the display. I’d recommend this place to anyone with children. There’s also Kirkleatham museum in the same grounds with an excellent playpark & woodland trail, all free.
