Paradisia Alpine Garden, created in July 1955, is located 1,700 metres above sea-level in Valnontey, Cogne; its name derives from Paradisia liliastrum, a mountain lily with delicate white flowers.

The garden contains about 1,000 different species of plants and flowers from the Alps and the Apennines, as well as some examples of vegetation from other mountain ranges around the world (Europe, Asia, America).

Visitors have the opportunity to come into close contact with nature by observing and analysing the plants which can be found during an excursion in the Gran Paradiso mountains. They can learn their names, compare them with other similar species, learn how to recognise them and, most important of all, learn to respect the alpine flora and to protect it.

Various itineraries and theme routes allow the visitor to explore Paradisia Botanical Garden in detail and to discover the characteristic and distinguishing features of different species. Moreover, several mountain environments such as moist areas, moraines and calcareous debris have been reproduced.

This is a very nice botanic garden near Valnontey. The garden offers an extensive collection of the flowers that you may come across on your walks in Gran Paradiso. We recognised lots of plants and flowers we had seen on the mountains and in the valleys. Nicely laid out too.

This garden is well laid out but probably best seen early season as in late August plants were not at their best. A plan is given for your walk round but could be made better if individual plots were numbered as the plan.

The botanic garden was nice, but you really should be here in the best time of the year. That is in May or June when everything is blooming and the whole nature's is still New and fresh. In Mid July many alpin flowers are already overblown and mown away.

Great place for a walk, interesting to see the flora. All good, nothing to dislike - some decent restaurants for a meal as well.

This was a pleasant aside to our trip to the mountains but some of the beds lacked attention. Worth a visit if you have the time - quite sweet with nice views but not that special.

We had a fantastic guided tour visiting this fabulous garden with over 1000 varieties of plants, trees and flowers. Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable and enthusiastic.

The person who had the vision to set this out deserves a medal. It is beautiful, calm and a feast for all the senses. I loved how informative the herb beds are and how the planting scheme ranges around the site. The information guides gave just the right amount of details and didn't impede the enjoyment - sitting in the... More
