About
The origins of this fortified complex are still unknown. It is made up of buildings all dating from different periods and all belonging to the noble family of Sarriod from the thirteenth to the early nineteenth century. Some valuable wall paintings from the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries, the period when the family reached the top of its political prestige, can be admired all along the visit. The "Heads Room", with its ceiling supported by 171 corbels carved into grotesque shapes, monsters and fantastic animals, is one of the original carving wooden late Gothic profane masterpieces.

Smaller and perhaps less famous castle than other castles in Val d'Aosta, but very interesting and a little mysterious.
Recent recovery interventions.
It lacks furnishings but its history is very captivating.
Our guide Mrs. Lina was very good.

Beautiful history experience, led by Mrs. Fernanda, who took us back in time. Courteous and above all competent, he made our guided tour interesting and pleasant. The visit to the castle appears pleasant and doable even for children

We went to this castle a few hours ago. Very interesting, I didn't know it existed. Truly compliments to Mrs. Lina who guided our visit. Very knowledgeable and very kind and allowed us to savor moments of life in the castle from 1200 to today 😊

I imagine this would be a very good castle to tour, however, for us it was inaccessible and they were not offering an English tour when we were there.

I'm sorry, We don't have a special guide for each language in the castle. You can visit the castle with a person who shows you the rooms, this service is included in the ticket price, but only in italian and french.
Guided tours are supported by a tourist guide you can reserve calling the tourist office ( "lovevda" web site or "regione.vda.it" web site), and ask for the Language you need.
kind regards

They openly discourage (not refuse) non italian speakers or those with very basic italian, from joining the tour (which is only in italian)!

An interesting little castle dating from the 12th Cent.
The Chapel has some fantastic (incomplete) frescos from the initial phase of the castle - and a later (complete) fresco of St Christopher.
The carved ceiling in the great hall is fantastic.
The tour is Italian - but the lady who led our tour was kind enough to translate everything into English.
The castle staff provide a full leaflet in English (French and German Versions Available as well) to support the tour.

When I visited this site in 2010 the two tour guides spoke only Italian or French. The castle's history is somewhat murky and it has had a number of additions to it throughout the centuries. The most interesting aspects of the castle are the original chapel and the great room which is adorned with medieval wood carvings of gargoyles. Too bad that there's an unsightly gravel pit below on the shores of the Dora River. It tends to spoil the atmosphere.

Very rude staff, there were 3 people sitting there without mask and they said only one of us two could come in. They refused to give information in French or English.

To get to the castle we can find a large parking lot where to leave the car.
The castle is immersed in apple crops, between the Dora Baltea river and the town of Saint Pierre
The staff who accompanied us on the guided tour were nice and prepared, even with the children in the visiting group.
A castle evolving over time, different styles and expansions distinguishes it.

This was a very short tour maybe 20 min max and it was guided. It only cost 3 euro and the guides are very knowledable about the castle and timeframes. Nice old history in the castle
