About
The Katogi Averoff winery is in Metsovo, a mountain village built some 1100 metres above sea-level. The oldest parts of the winery date back to 1973, when work began on a new building required to cover the company's ever-increasing production needs. Its cellars can boast over 1200 oak barrels in which our red wines mature, while the winery shop offers rare and collectible bottles of wine for sale from its 1974 vintage on. A guided tour of the winery employs a range of audio-visual media to offer the visitor an original introduction to wine production and the history of the winery, and is rounded off with tastings of a selection of Katogi Averoff wines.

BEAUTIFUL WINERY, NOT TO MISS!
Jun 2021
Unfortunately we only got a small tour around this beautiful winery, as we needed to book in advance for wine tasting, because it was a busy long public holiday weekend. The tour however is worthed even without the wine tasting, even though I am totally doing both during my next visit. The visitable wine areas are very beautiful and historic. There is also a beautiful wine shop, where you can buy all the variety of Katogi Averof wines and a selection of other products as well. TOTALLY recommended!

Love the decor in this place. Not a wine lover but I hear these wines are good. Walking down and up the cellars was a great experience.

Small but lovely!
Sep 2018
Small winery with some excellent wines to taste. This historic winery offers a very nice experience in Metsovo along with Tositsa Mansion, Averoff Gallery and the beautiful churches spread in this mountain resort. The mountainous terroirs give a couple of fine examples of local wines with Rossiu di Munte Yiniets and Flogero being the ones catching my attention. Staying in the hotel situated next to the winery, is also a very good choice.

Thank you so much for visiting us and for your kind words! It is really important for us to express the mountain terroir through our wines. Yiniets vineyard in Metsovo is the most high altitude vineyard in Greece and Rossiu di Munte Yiniets is a quite special Cabernet Sauvignon coming from the very first vines planted by E. Averoff in 1958-59. We are happy to hear you enjoyed our wines and your stay in our hotel. We hope to see you again soon! Best Regards, Katogi Averoff Team

Lovely local winery
Jul 2019 • Friends
The Averoff winery in near the edge Metsovo, about 10-15 minutes pleasant walk through the village. It is built in the traditional architecture of Metsovo. There are free guided tours every 30 minutes or so. We did not have to book or wait.

The tour takes you through the winery and the process of making wine. This is where all Averoff wine is produced: Evangelos Averoff was the first in 1958 to introduce the cabernet-sauvignon variety in Greece, imported from Chateau Margaux. Our guide, a lovely young woman, was very informative and knowledgeable about the winery. The tour begins with a small collection of ancient artefacts privately owned by the foundation. You visit the cellars where the wooden barrels are kept in cool temperatures. There are also modern art exhibits scattered through the rooms. The tour finishes in a shop where you can purchase wine and wine related items: some of them, like the flogero, can only be purchased here.

Awesome
Jun 2019
This is probably the best wine tasting we have ever had.
All the Wines are locally produced. Since the winery is kind of small everything is done by hand, no heavy machinery. Never the less they produce about 500 000 bottles a year. With that said wine was great. But what made it so amazing it was our guide - Nancy. She was incredibly nice and kind. Thank you very much!

Dear 362zarag, Thank you so much for visiting us and for your kind words. It is really important for us to keep on cultivating our vineyard in Metsovo, which is the most high altitude vineyard in Greece, and we are happy to hear you enjoyed our wines. We hope to see you again soon! Best Regards, Nancy for Katogi Averoff Team

Must visit winery, rare wines and impressive history
May 2019 • Family
A winery mostly known for its popular Katogi Averoff red wine, but actually sports a wider variety of rare indigenous grape varieties that rarely make it very far as they come in productions under 5,000 bottles. Rich and impressive history, a short but engaging tour of the winery with wine tasting - winery now complimented by onsite hotel, so certainly a good move to stay out of the hustle of downtown Metsovo, 15min away on foot.

Very interesting place!
May 2019 • Family
Beautiful place, interesting winery, we didn't wait for the tour as we had to wait 15 minutes, but we visited the cellar by ourselves (without the guide) and it was perfect! We bought some wines (Flogero, Squirrel and Katogi Averoff ) as we love wines from Averoff winery. The only negative is that the prices are a little bit high as Katogi Averoff wine had higher price than some super markets.

Dear Vivian, Thank you so much for visiting our winery and for loving our wines. Regarding your comment about the prices, please let us note that the prices in our shop are based in our official pricelist. However, it can happen to find our best selling wines in promotions in super markets. We hope to see you soon. Best Regards, Maria Dimou Marketing Manager Katogi Averoff
