About
The Katogi Averoff winery is in Metsovo, a mountain village built some 1100 metres above sea-level. The oldest parts of the winery date back to 1973, when work began on a new building required to cover the company's ever-increasing production needs. Its cellars can boast over 1200 oak barrels in which our red wines mature, while the winery shop offers rare and collectible bottles of wine for sale from its 1974 vintage on. A guided tour of the winery employs a range of audio-visual media to offer the visitor an original introduction to wine production and the history of the winery, and is rounded off with tastings of a selection of Katogi Averoff wines.

    BEAUTIFUL WINERY, NOT TO MISS!
Unfortunately we only got a small tour around this beautiful winery, as we needed to book in advance for wine tasting, because it was a busy long public holiday weekend. The tour however is worthed even without the wine tasting, even though I am totally doing both during my next visit. The visitable wine areas are very beautiful and historic. There is also a beautiful wine shop, where you can buy all the variety of Katogi Averof wines and a selection of other products as well. TOTALLY recommended!
Dear jmal127, We are glad you enjoyed the tour at our winery! Especially this period, due to COVID restrictions, we strongly recommend our visitors booking in advance for wine tasting. We hope next time you will have the opportunity to stay at our hotel and to enjoy a wine tasting. Best Regards, Katogi Averoff Team

    Cool history!
Register for the free winery tour which is unusual/fascinating for the rich history the winery and the town share. Metsovo is an incredibly picturesque place. You can walk to the winery from many hotels - we loved Archontiko Metsovo Boutique Hotel with it's amazing view.
Thank you for your kind review of our winery. We hope next time you will have the opportunity to stay at Katogi Averoff Hotel which is next to the winery and it offers the opportunity to enjoy wines in a unique atmosphere. Best Regards, Katogi Averoff Team

We were turned away because they had a tour that was going to be coming in, although there was no one there while we were there. I am really not sure why they couldn't take us on a tour, or at least do a wine tasting. We were at the gardens (which were not in good condition at all) for quite a while and never saw a tour come in. Very disappointing. We went into town and found a wonderful little wine shop where we had wine and cheese instead.

Dear SophiaMaria, Thank you for your feedback which helps us to improve our services. Due to COVID restrictions, we strongly recommend our visitors to book ahead their tour and wine tasting. So, indeed please make an appointment! Besides, your comment gives us the opportunity to mention once again that admission in the winery is only allowed to vaccinated or people who have recovered, with the demonstration of GreenPass (SARS-Cov-2 vaccination/disease certificate or the European Digital Certificate COVID-19). We hope next time you'll visit Metsovo, the conditions will be better and that you will have the opportunity for a tour and wine-tasting. Best Regards, Katogi Averoff Team

A traditional winery with a unique atmosphere located in the middle of a beautiful scenery. The tour inside the winery was very interesting and the hosting was excellent! Totally worth visiting if you are travelling around the area.

I have been visiting Metsovo since I was a little kid for winter holidays and sports.
I never had the chance, up until now to visit during summer and I was blown away.
A top destination for both summer and winter trips and one of the must-do experiences is visiting Katogi and having the wine tour and tasting.
An immersive journey in history, spectacular scenery, the most mountainous vineyards, and some of the greatest wines the country has to offer.

We enjoy the Katogi Averof wines and decided to pay the winery a visit. We walked to it and although it was closed that day according to the website, we were offered the tour. The cellars are very impressive and the winery is very well designed. You need to be able to walk down some stairs and eyes need a few minutes to adjust to a darker environment. After the end of the tour, we were offered a couple of wines for tasting and then we visited the shop that carries all the wines in better prices than the market. Some of the wines are rare and hard to find in the market, so be prepared to shop! We also saw some nice wooden wine boxes for gifts and local pasta products. The person in charge was very helpful and we saw her taking more people to the winery who showed up without appointments. We enjoyed the site and we recommend it especially to wine lovers.

This winery is very interesting because of its cellar, but only if you take the tour. The guide was pleasant and patient and explained in details many aspects.
We even bought a couple of bottles. A really nice place if you get to Metsovo!

Beautiful place, interesting winery, we didn't wait for the tour as we had to wait 15 minutes, but we visited the cellar by ourselves (without the guide) and it was perfect! We bought some wines (Flogero, Squirrel and Katogi Averoff ) as we love wines from Averoff winery. The only negative is that the prices are a little bit high as Katogi Averoff wine had higher price than some super markets.

Dear Vivian, Thank you so much for visiting our winery and for loving our wines. Regarding your comment about the prices, please let us note that the prices in our shop are based in our official pricelist. However, it can happen to find our best selling wines in promotions in super markets. We hope to see you soon. Best Regards, Maria Dimou Marketing Manager Katogi Averoff

We had a wonderful stay at hotel KATOGI-AVEROFF in Metsovo. Built in the traditional way (stone, wood, slate roofs) and elegantly decorated with hand-crafted textiles and art objects, this boutique hotel offers everything that we had wished for. Ample rooms with balconies overlooking surrounding mountains, well equipped bathrooms, comfortable beds. Excellent breakfast with seasonal fruit and local cheeses, home-made preserves, Metsovo “pitas”, eggs, cakes many more. Staff were very efficient and friendly.

The hotel is adjacent to the winery with the same name; a must-see (and taste…). Both the winery and the hotel are steeped in history and tradition, well displayed in both. The hotel is at the edge of the town, away from the hustle and bustle of the town center with its shopping and restaurants, yet a ten-minute easy walk takes you to the center.

Metsovo is surrounded by beautiful forests, rivers and creeks, old chapels and monasteries. Easy to challenging hikes and/or bike rides can be arranged.

One of the more impressive wine cellars. To begin with, it is huge. Then it combines local history with an enormous number of barrels placed in different spaces and directions. The lady who guides the tour is doing an excellent job in both providing the right amount of information and in making it interesting. The unique decoration using wine bottles and lights makes it even more impressive.
