This place has a huge range of memorabilia and artifacts, we entered late in the day so only spent an hour or so but saw heaps in that time. You could definitely spend a few hours meandering through. The kids really enjoyed.

Up there as one of the best historic villages I have visited in the world. It has literally all buildings and displays you would see in a village in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. Plan to spend at least 5 hours and include lunch at the cafe. The memorabilia that has been collected is amazing. I personally loved the showroom with the different grade tests that would have been typical of the day. I think entry cost around $37, which was well worth what is presented.

If you love Australian history and the mining industry, this will tick all of your boxes. From the moment you enter, you are greeted with smiling faces from an array of volunteers who are passionate about sharing their knowledge and love for the history for our beautiful country. Such a special place. Put it on your bucket list.

We actually took two and a half days to explore this stunning open air museum with its multiple rich collections from the past. And not just my grandparents past! I remember items in the collections being in daily use and I used phonographs, radios, cameras like those in the collection and I worked in a pharmacy that closely resembled the handsomely displayed one in the village.

The village is complete with pubs, a butcher’s shop, a sewing shop, a camera shop, a printery, a record shop, a toy shop, a second hand store and so on. There is a tin mine with mining equipment. There is a sawmill. There are historic buildings all fully furnished as in the day; a slab hut; a Bishop’s cottage; a farm house; curators have assembled multiple spectacular displays of collectables: children’s toys; bottles; vintage cars; steam engines; bulldozers; tractors, Victorian fashion and so on.

We spent at least an hour at each of the live demonstrations of the crafts of blacksmithing, wood turning and typesetting. The presenters were very experienced craftsmen with deep knowledge and we were fascinated with the demonstrations of the intricacies of their crafts.

For us, the Historic Village was the highlight of our stay in Herberton and we took full advantage of the three day pass. Keen collectors would take much longer!

Very interesting village/museum …with your entry you get a 3 day pass & you need it… some displays have people showing how things work & they are very knowledgeable. Everything is well presented, clean & in good condition. From the vintage cars to the original mine onsite. Well worth the experience.

Fabulous evocation of goldrush settlements in north Queensland. The train is a must-do and worth the additional cost. Many lovely antiques and very well presented. Dressing staff in period costume could add to that immersive experience as would use of music from the era in places like the cafe.

There’s so much to do and see. We went without the kids but will definitely be back with them. There are different activities and things to do on different days so recommend more than one visit. The weather was beautiful and the staff lovely. We enjoyed the blacksmith exhibition and had a great time.

Amazing number of different displays all in the one spot. The blacksmith demo was really engaging and the Devonshire tea was spot on. I now understand why people would want to spend more than one day here. So much to see and do. Fabulous museum experience. Even my wife thought it was great, and she is not fond of museums, unlike her husband.

This place is awesome and great history of the region. So much Australian History on display you need two days to enjoy and see it all or even half a day. A must visit location and will go again.

We wondered why our entry ticket was valid for three days; we used it for two! So much to see we lost ourselves and didn't realise how long we had been there so came back two days later. Everything is well maintained with explanations and stories so you know what you are looking at. The sad thing for me was realising that things that were familiar to me, that I grew up with, are now in a museum! Loved the whole experience.
