Beware and stay away! We rented a pedalo for 1 hour - We we’re never called in by the company and arrived back no more than 5 minute late. For half an hour we were aggressively bullied by 3 intimidating guys for 20 euro for the extra 3/4 mins we stayed out. We left very scared for our safety.

This beach was less than 10 minute walk from our apartment. Beautiful Sandy beach with a couple of restaurants, toilets and sun beds and umbrellas for hire. There’s also a beach club that you can book, great for families and couples.

Leaving Albufeira on the road to Armacao de Pera you will drive for approximately 10 kms before you see a signpost to take the 3rd left turning at the roundabout towards Praia Grande de Pera. Shortly after the cafe on the left, the tarmac becomes rubble and you can either go straight ahead or turn right. Turning right takes you towards the area where there are cafes, toilets etc. Straight ahead takes you to a car park at the bottom of a boardwalk over the dunes and is better if you wish to go to the naturist area of the beach. Cross the boardwalk to the beach. As you approach the huge expanse of sand, to the right you will see a small, rocky outcrop jutting into the sand. About 100 metres beyond the outcrop is the area where you will find textile free bathers. Take some shade. There are no sunbeds/sunshades or facilities of any kind on this section of the beach and the temperature can be ferociously hot. Walking naked to and from the sea is perfectly acceptable though most women seem to prefer donning bikini bottoms to do this for some reason. I won't deny this area does attract a fair proportion of single males but, by and large, they weren't a problem. The sea is the Atlantic Ocean and the tide comes in a long way so you are better basing yourself nearer to the dunes if you don't want to move. As beaches go, it's fairly clean with fine golden sand and if you take plenty of water and a picnic, it's quite easy to spend a lazy afternoon just soaking up the rays.

Amazing for a day of chilling and catching the sun! Lovely view and a great place to watch the world go by. Nice and clean. The sea floor slopes ever so slightly it don't drop, great for children.

A beautiful, stunning beach, free parking near a Bird Sanctuary, then a board walk above sand dunes to the stunning beach, we were slightly out of season, so lots of beach, a part of the beach is for naturalist which having made our nest in a particular area then settling down to some serious sun bathing and clocking the neighbours realised they had no costumes on at all, none of them!! oh well if you can't beat then then join them! are they ever going to see us again..But if you are not so relaxed and carefree, just watch where you nest!!

Having holidayed in the Algarve for the last 15 years, this year we decided to use the Railway in Lagos to go out. It was October and the weather warm and sunny. Around 30 minutes by train from Lagos is the little unspoilt resort of Ferragudo. Although the village is around 20 mins away from where the train stops following the river it's so worth the walk. Ferragudo stands on the River Estuary overlooking Portimao it is one of the prettiest areas on the Algarve. There is a fort built on the beach which is very impressive and splits the village beach from the larger Praia Grande. The beach is absolutely beautiful, with soft sands, crystal clear sea waters with peace and quiet away from the larger resorts in the area. Take a picnic and sun umbrella and spend the day just watching the world go by with a dip or swim in the sea to keep you cool! Ferragudo centre has some of the best fish restaurants on the Algarve and very reasonably priced. The streets are cobbled and narrow with a few gift shops and art shops.
If you don't like traveling by public transport and you have a car I would definitely recommend a vist. I can guarantee you will not be disappointed with this day out.
We even enjoyed the train ride which follows the coastal path for most of the way, with farm land
and open spaces away from the Motorways!

Big and quiet riverside beach, no waves like the more ocean oriented beaches so it's more family and child friendly here... there's a couple of places to get a drink or a snack too here

Went here in October and no one else was on the beach, travel from Portimão by boat, definitely worth a visit.

This beach is great, sandy with a choice of bars/restaurants. Can hire good fixed straw shade umbrellas and sun beds with full length cushions. Can hire canoes pedalos and paddle boards.

Lovely beach and considering the time of year not too busy , the sea is cold at first but once you’ve got in it’s fine, very calm waters with no waves so great for little kids, we like to snorkel and the visibility was poor so not great for that
