It is amazing to watch this beautiful waterfalls where water strolls down the rocks spread over a wide area with forest on either sides producing hypnotic sounds while twisting and turning that help unwind the stress and strain of modern life. Try to sit there for some time on the benches provided looking at the falls meditating while listening to the mesmerizing sounds of mother Nature.

During the rainy season there will be heavy flow of water obviously but in summer too Nature here won't disappoint you even if the quantity of water is less. Take photos and videos from different angles. Always observe all the rules and regulations depicted over there and never try to enter the falls or river.

A must-visit place in Kerala, indeed!

Vazhachal Falls is situated in Athirappilly Panchayath of Thrissur district in Kerala on the southwest coast of India. Located on the west-flowing Chalakudy River near the Vazhachal Forest Division and at the edge of the Sholayar ranges, it is just 5 km from entrance of Athirappilly Falls. It is located 36 km from Chalakudy

The scenic attraction of Vazhachal, the other picnic spot is just a drive from Athirampally. These scintillating waterfalls in thick green forest are a part of the Chalakudy river stream.

The Vazhachal waterfall is a scenic and popular waterfall on the edge of the Sholayar forest range in Kerala. The Vazhachal is part of the Chalakkudy River. Its cool, misty waters cascading down with the backdrop of thick green forest and rocky terrain are a scintillating experience for visitors.

It is a decent place to visit while you are at Athirapally to see other attractions. There is nothing spectacular about this place. It is however quiet and not crowded even during the peak December season. The scenic beauty is soothing and you can sit on one of the many stone benches erected around the area.

Even though the falls is mostly horizontal and resembles steep rapids more than a waterfall, most of the water area is roped of for Safety reasons and the only area where you can actually enter the water is a small pool near the top which is usually full of locals and one may not really enjoy it so much.

All in all, it is something that you can skip if you are on a tight trip and have other places to visit.

It takes 1.5 hours from Kochi Airport in a car/taxi to reach here.

Its a calm place to be in as you explore the surrounding areas of the waterfalls. The whole waterfalls are horizontal. There is no vertical flow of water. Its a vast place to be in and its 5 km away from the Athirapally waterfalls. There are also treks where guides take you from Athirapally to Vazachal waterfalls through the forest. Its about Rs.3000-4000 for a group of 4 people I reckon. I went there by the state bus. Its advisable to go here by a private vehicle and first cover Vazachal and then go to Athirapally. There is a vast place place to walk and look at the flowing water throughout the area. Just sit down for sometime here and enjoy the peace. I went here in the afternoon around 1 pm and it was pretty cool. The ticket for Athirapally is accepted here so you dont have to pay again.

The Vazhachal waterfalls is not just a huge waterfall where water cascades from a height but the water gushes along the steeply inclined rocks where the danger is hiding behind the beauty of the water and the forest. You can see rocks protruding in the milky water and giving a feeling that it is easy to walk over it but the force of the flowing water, slippery rocks covered with moss and the crevices under the rocks make it dangerous. It is a great place to sit and watch the water flowing, enjoy the beauty of the scenic forest, look for rare birds etc. Because of the casualties in the past, the area is well fenced and guarded and the guards will warn not to venture into the water. I have been to Vazhachal several times and last month too I made a short visit and I think one will never get fed up with visiting and enjoying the beauty of Vazhachal.

Just 5 kms away from the famous Athirappilly waterfalls, where a portion of film Bahubali was shot, Vazhachal is another place of attraction. It is not as big as Athirappilly water fall
as the water is flowing through the rocks here. It is in a very picturesque place and worth enjoying.
