Since 30 years I have been visiting Malakkappara but the village has not developed much and we can enjoy the beauty of virgin nature. The way from Chalakudy after Athirappilly and Vazhachal has rather less traffic and only tourists and forest officials take this route. Malakkappara in on the border of Kerala and Tamilnadu at an elevation of about 3200 feet. The road to Malakkappara is narrow and through the forest, we may encounter monkeys, elephants, wild boars etc. The Sholayar lake, the beautiful tea gardens etc are the main attractions and occassional mist and the cool breeze are enchanting. Malakkappara as such is a treat to our eyes with the beautiful tea gardens, mist covered mountains and zig-zag roads. Once our vehicle broke down and the whole night we spent with forest officials who were very friendly and caring and we owe our gratitude them. That was the only night we stayed at Malakkappara orelse we always stay at Valparai. Trip to Malakkappara awlays give me a refreshing feel and I really like the place.

Malakkappara is a hill station 80 km away from chalakudy, Kerala. It is the border of Kerala and Tamilnadu. The route to Malakkappara is via World famous Athirapally waterfalls and Vazhachal Waterfalls. Malakkappara is a small town with some shops. No big hotels are available there, only some home stays for visitors. Malakkappara also connect Pollachi by road. Public transport (ksrtc bus) also available from Chalakudy

Malakkappara is actually plantations hidden from the hustle bustle of Trissur.Even the natives of Trissur don't know about this place.A ride scaling 2 hours into depths of this forest,I could visit' Munnar ' rather than actually visiting it.It offers a cool and refreshing climate which one could use for a change. We actually discovered this place after booking the DTPC Thrissur tour which is the best option to travel to Malakkappara. It has shops that sell homemade chocolates, coffee beans and other natural items.

We went on a sunny day and it was a public holiday. There is not much activity you can do here. Just some tea estate and photo sessions. There is no proper hotels or rest rooms found. There is a Kerala check post.If you travel 4 more km you will reach Tamilnadu Checkpost

For those who love the forest and driving this is the place to visit. Start from Valparai or from Chalakudy by car or bike and you will have a hour or so of bliss in the forest road winding up through bamboo, teak and rattan rich forests and you would encounter streams, rivers, dams, waterfalls and wildlife along the way. The estates replace the forest when you reach Malakkappara where your can stop by for tea. Be on guard for elephants that cross the road at times at bends and don't surprise them with your speed.. The famed Athirapilly falls and the Vazhachal and Charpa fall are on this road. So as a couple of water theme parks.

We visited Malakkappara tea estates yesterday afternoon from Chalkudy.
We hired a cab and started from Chalkudy around 7AM and reached Malakkappara tea estates around 11.30 AM i guess..
The 45km rain-forest drive is thrilling though we had nightmare time sitting the cab due to the ghat roads and slopes all around.
However the key is to take halts in between which will make us feel better.
The western ghats, waterfalls, forest roads from Chalkudy to Malakkappara tea estates is breath taking to say the least.
We paid cab driver 4200Rs from Chalkudy - We visited Malakkappara tea estates yesterday afternoon from Chalkudy - Malakkappara - Cochin Airport.
