One of the outstanding Poles of his generation
Aug 2020 • Family
Read up about his life - very interesting. He said his work was inspired mainly by music rather than literature, films or other artists. He was a modest, shy man who didn't attend his exhibition openings and didn't like to talk about the meaning of his work, preferring that people form their own opinions.

He lived in Sanok and moved later to an appartment in Warsaw in the Ursinow district.

Perfect way to honor a great artist

A really nice sculpture of Zdzisław Beksiński. Once you leave his exhibition, which is located nearby in Sanok Castle, it is a really good feeling to once again look at this amazing artist and contemplate his artworks for a while. It is a great sculpture to take a picture with. I am happy that it is located close to the museum and the main square.

Beksiński
May 2019
Polish engineer, architect, painter, sculptor, photographer, draftsman and artist who also used computer graphics, Zdzisław Beksiński was born in Sanok in 1929, into a family, that was connected to the town at least since early 19th century. The house Beksiński was born in was a family seat for at least 5 generations. Beksiński spent his childhood in Sanok, then emigrated to Kraków for univeristy, then came back to work in famous bus factory, designing the buses and also inventing new ways they were made. When local authorities decided to demolish his house he moved to Warszawa, where he was murdered in 2005. Burried in Sanok. His artist life started with photography, closely followed by sculpture, then he moved to abstract drawings. In 21st century computer graphics became his obsession. Th largest collection of Beksiński works is on view in recently reconstructed wing of Sanok castle, just round the corner from the Beksiński monument, which stands in the shadow of building next to the first town hall, on the market square. The monument itself was erted in 2012.
