We visited the mosque at night and I have to say that it's one of the most beautiful mosques I've ever seen! Architecture is just stunning!

It's a university from the front and a mosque from the back
It has another more famous and widespread name; Emir Abdelkader University/ or Islamic University or Emir Abdelkader mosque.
A beautiful and luxurious building in the style of the Maghreb Islamic architecture. It can be considered the most beautiful university building in Algeria. The university and the mosque were built with marble and granite. They have a very large yard that can be called the mosque yard or campus. A nice thing that was added years ago is to cross the tramway in front of the university. The mosque inside is very beautiful

When we got there I think is so far the biggest Mosquee I ever seen not only the size of the mosquee itself but the minarets and the surroundings...ready to host 10.000people or more...inside it reminds me the Blue Mosque in Istambul and I found out that it was decorated by the Turquish...I must said that the work in the Dome is incredible as well as all the ceiling...

This is like my second home in Constantine. Whenever I'm feeling like I need a good breather, I'll take the tramway over here (which is one of it's perks btw, the tramway stop is right next to it!). The mosque doesn't have air conditioning but it's soooo cool inside. It could be pushing 105 degrees Farenheit outside but the moment you step inside, you might think for a minute you're feeling some cool spring breeze from the open doors. Sometimes you'll find men taking a nap inside when it gets super hot. Always been a welcoming environment for me, despite the fact that the women's area isn't open during normal prayer times. As a woman, I pray there during anytime of the day (as I do in all mosques in Constantine, so to my Muslim sisters, it can feel a little strange at first but people will always make room for you to pray). Unfortunately, I've never gone during the morning as it's difficult to get out during those hot summer days. Apparently, the library and university is open from something like 8 to 5, so you can get a look at the inner courtyard and things. There are times when it's closed. I think it's generally immediately after Eid, but I'm unsure. It's beautiful inside and out. There's a wonderful view of the city from here and always kids and folks out and about in front of the mosque within it's gates. The area this used to be on was actually just fields where people used to play soccer/kids would play before it was completed in 94. The project started in the 70s and building began in the 80s. It's lovely to see that they didn't take away that playful spirit and there's still plenty of space where kids play. Ma shaa Allah & Alhamdulilah for this place.

While we were a little hesitant at first to visit the mosque (as it's not meant to be a tourist site), we were glad that we did. The architecture of the building is gorgeous, especially the detailing inside. Of course you have to take your shoes and socks off, and cover your hair if you're a woman, but it's really well worth it.

They don't get many non Muslim visitors, but they were able to offer us some garments to wear over our clothes and enter the mosque. Really a lovely place. Good addition to a Constantine city visit.

One of main landmarks in Constantine, you cannot miss.
Fine Islamic art in a nutshell, with finely decorated marble walsl and floors, wooden work and vitraille, with splendid caligraphy around and beautiful carpets.
The prayer room Inspires quiteness and peace,

Adjacent to the Mosq, one of the highest places in Islamic world, teaching Islamic sciences.
It was given the name of Great Emir Abdelkader, born in the Western part of the country in the opposite side of Constantine in the Eastern part of Algeria, like to celebrate Algeira's unity from West to East.
