I found Rancho Sol y Mar by coincidence and was astonished to see what a great job Daniel and his family did there. Their project there has made a change on a local level and keeps inspiring locals to follow. I stayed at the Rancho for two days in which I experienced an amazing combination of relaxation, learning about sustainable living and permaculture and communicating with some very interesting people. The location is great with a remote and beautiful beach just 1 minute walking away. The kindness of the locals are fascinating. Some speak English quite well and all of them are always open for communication, especially when it´s accompanied by a cerveca y taco :)
Normally, I have something negative to add but here nothing comes to my mind. It´s a great place to develop skills, personality and enjoy yourself in every aspect while doing so!

We did an educational tour in March 2015, and also returned for a couple casual visits to the facilities since we were staying next door. We had a fantastic experience with Erick, who is the ranch manager. He is positive, passionate, knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and was a joy and inspiration to get to know. We have a little experience with permaculture and sustainability and found the rancho interesting in its early stage development. We will follow the career of Erick anywhere he goes though. We only knew him for a few days but he is someone who will make a difference. The rancho itself is in a very scenic location and has a variety of interesting projects.

We spent two wonderful nights at Rancho Sol y Mar and can't wait to go back. We stayed in a beautifully decorated room in the hacienda-awesome comfy bed and bedding, tasteful old world decor and the jungle right outside our screened windows. We enjoyed relaxing on the large veranda, having access to the well furnished outdoor kitchen and all the little details of the self-sustaining property. It was such a treat to find such a socially conscious accomodation with such attention to detail. Thank you Holly for creating such a great getaway in Mayto. Denise and Chris

We had amazingly unforgettable time with our little kids in Rancho sol y Mar! We liked our room, we liked the outdoor kitchen, we liked fellow visitors and Hillary who was always very sweet and hepful. Definitely THE place to visit if you like nature, empty huge beautiful beach, bright stars in the night and sound of waves in your dreams.

Despite only spending a few days here, it was amazing! Such a quiet, relaxing place, really interesting to visit the farm, the eco construction, the whole lot. We felt immediately at home, really easygoing, open, generous owners. It's a beautiful remote setting, not that easy to get to but definitely worth the trip. Our only regret is not having stayed longer! Thank you

This place is awesome, I came down to take a permaculture Design Course here and was blown away by how nice the owners are and how perfect a place it was to take a course like this. During the course we got to meet the owners in depth and spend some time helping on other projects on the ranch like adding the Cob layer to the "caseta", learning about different types of natural building and how the ranch runs with solar and drip lines for all the tropical fruit trees. Such a great time there and worth exponentially more than we payed. We got a life time of knowledge and experience for not many pesos.

We spent a week at the ranch doing the EEP (Experiential Education Program) with Janelle and Erick and every single part of it was amazing and really inspiring. We did everything from working with the horses to learning how to build houses with natural material. The ranch is located really close to a beautiful, almost empty beach where we spent most of the afternoons. The ranch has everything you could possibly want, for example a great big kitchen (which we used if Janelle or Erick hadn´t cooked delicious food for us), two yoga platforms with incredible views of both sunrise and sunset, and a really nice garden right next to the community building where we were staying, among other things. The whole experience was just very healing for both mind and body, and we are more inspired than ever to learn more about sustainability and permaculture and change the way we are living right now. We want to send a biiiig thank you to Erick and Janelle for being amazing people (same goes for the chicken crew, the goats, dogs and horses), we hope we can come back some time soon again!

Gosh, I have logged some hours at the Rancho over the last three years...and I hope to log many more! What started out as a random connection (meeting friends of Dan & Holly's all the way up in NH that turned me on to the ranch) has turned into a deep admiration and appreciation for the ranch, the people of Mayto, the many friends I have worked (and played) with there, and for Dan and Holly themselves.
I don't think it would be any stretch to say that everyday is an adventure. Sunsets to scorpions, burros to beaches, swimming, swimming, swimming, a few healthy doses of machete time, some sweat, lots of smiles, and loads of lessons learned from the land and the diverse and exceptional people that congregate here makes this a very special place in my heart.
Thanks so much!!!

I will be eternally grateful to Rancho Sol y Mar. I lived on the ranch for one month, and I truly feel as though I learned more valuable lessons in that month than I had in all of my previous schooling. The workshops taught a broad range of information, from permaculture to natural building to natural health and medicine. But more so, the ranch attracts such a wide variety of wonderful, interesting people from all over the world, and I felt as though I was learning so much from each and every conversation that I shared with them.

Further, the ranch has a way of connecting you to the earth. You take care of the chickens and they take care of you by providing fresh eggs each day, you take care of the garden which takes care of you by providing vegetables and fruits, etc. You become part of the life cycle, as opposed to a passenger of the earth who only takes. Forming this bond with nature also creates a strong connection between your body and higher spirit. I left feeling more connected than I ever had-ironic because I didn't use internet for that whole month ;)

I strongly suggest visiting this ranch for any person hoping to learn and connect more passionately with the earth and themselves, I ensure that you will leave with a rejuvenated spirit and a zest for life and our beautiful planet.
