We have visited the museum several days ago (Dec 2019). Very nice and interesting private museum. Many exhibits, real exhibitis of the several generations of the family. Our guide was very nice man, told us a lot about the history of the castle and answered our questions. Finally, a very tasty traditional coffee with dates. Beatiful exhibition.
I really recommend to make a stop there when travelling to or from the desert.
You could park your car very near the museum, don´t worry to enter the gate to the square area.

12 rooms with a stunning private collection of the super friendly owner Khalfan are well worth a visit. We were stunned by how much love for detail every single of the thousands of pieces was arranged. We had a very lovely guide that showed us around. We were also lucky that the owner was present and it was a great pleasure to drink qahwa and hear about his life and passion for his collection.

... and Khalfan Al Hashmi it is proof : in this small place, in this small castle you experience authenticity, which is a rare commodity nowadays. The elegance and class of its owner show through the simple but significative collections featured.

Our guide told us about this museum a bit off the beaten, tourist, route. Housed in a preserved fort it is a small museum with rooms filled with the private collection of Khalfan Al Hashmi, the founder and owner. He started collecting when he was 15 and hasn't stopped. Very interested and intimate - we had dates and coffee with the owner at the end of the tour. We were the only visitors and you get the feeling not many people stop by which is a pity because it is well worth it.

Just a random chance visit. And so happy we found it en route between turtles and deserts.
Lovely friendly enthusiastic Filipino guide.
One (interesting) man's personal collection of everything from cultural relics of local artisans to worldwide porcelain to quirky kids' toys and telephones from 50 yrs ago.

Stopped by on way from Desert Night Camp to Ras al Jinz turtle reserve. Very interesting collection of Omani cultural objects in a beautifully renovated fort. Coffee and dates with the very friendly owner after a guided tour was a bonus.

Had an excellent visit to this privately owner collection of antiques and artefacts, the guide was well informed and pointed out some fascinating parts of this very large collection. Enjoyed coffee and dates with the owner after the tour and talked about his passion for collecting and for his country. Will definitely visit again to see how his collection continues to expand.

On way back from night is Desert, when follow the road signs to the Museum. The guide was well informed and gave insightful tour of this private collection. While not all of the items are from Oman it is worth the visit. Our tour was topped off by having coffee and dates with the owner who is passionate about his collection and sharing it. He also is an advisor to the government on tourist matters, of which he is well informed and we had a very interesting conversation.

We stopped here en route between Ras al Jinz ( turtle beach) to Desert Nights camp.
Not easy to find but worth it. Tucked away in a back street behind the livestock feed market. It appeared closed, but the door was opened to us by a lovely guide who had spotted us on the CCTV !
We were then given a personal tour by her . Lots to see, ranging from 2000 year old pottery to Betamax video players! Massive collection of porcelain, cooking equipment, copper utensils, jewellery, baskets, guns, even turtle and camel skeletons! We then met the charming owner who gave us coffee and dates and was keen to chat.
Highly recommended if in the area !
