Highland Trekking and Trail is a great experience!
Great ride in the Highlands! Iain is knowledgeable regarding local history and a great story teller! Absolute riot! The ponies were all well cared for and seemed to enjoy their jobs. I would absolutely do this again!

Excellent horses, stunning views and knowledgeable and entertaining trek leaders
Amazing horses, amazing views, and great history lesson from Ian. Never a dull moment from start to finish. Lots of history facts told along the way. The views are breath taking. The horses are so well cared for and well behaved. I've been many times and loved it more each time. They cater for all riding abilities. I highly recommend this place. You won't be disappointed

Found you again after what, 16 years?
I did this years ago with my then-partner. what a laugh and such a friendly couple they are. my arse was sore from the horse, my stomach from the laughing. I'm going again this weekend with my daughter after falling into the place after years! I can't wait. I had to put May 2023, I don't go back as far as I need.

    Friendliest horses ever!
I don't think I've ever met such friendly horses - and the owners/guides were just the same! Spectacular scenery, but be prepared for a few miles of un-tarred roads after Tomich to get there - although it's DEFINITELY worth it! They were so helpful to us; my grandson had never been on a horse before, and he went off quite happily for a 1:1 led trek, which was just perfect. Cannot recommend highly enough.

    Brilliant.
Brilliant way to spend a couple of hours. Hosts were big characters, never a dull moment. Very welcoming and obviously cared deeply for the horses and environment in which they live. As a beginner, i felt Sadie looked after me well and felt reassured as a little nervous to begin with. My husband is an experienced rider, and he and another couple had the opportunity to canter without me, which he appreciated. Would highly recommend.

    Hugo & Tilly
Our first time in Eastern saddles!! Hugo was a love and Tilly was full of energy! This was a beautiful ride with gorgeous and well-loved ponies! Iain is a straightforward and standup guide, and you can tell he adores his ponies and horses. He takes amazing care of them and it’s important to keep in mind that there is a strict weight limit, for good and important reasons! The few negative reviews will mention “only being 6+lbs over” but the care and safety of these ponies come first. Can you imagine carrying +6lbs, +8lbs, or even +20lbs over your weight limit?! Read the website thoroughly and enjoy the awesome Highland views!! Thank you Iain for hosting us and sorry for stepping on your finger! 😅😊

My experience at The highland pony trekking was possibly the worse time I have ever had. The man Iain, was so aggressive, unpleasant, and intimidating.
I had been asked for my weight when booking and sent a rough estimate of 14 stone. It was wrong and I am heavier. He shouted because there is a legal limit of 14 stone and I was putting his horses in risk because of my weight. He said this happens every day and it is dangerous for his horses. When he stopped for breathe, I suggested that I forfeit the ride. He said no I could ride but myself, my son and another lady booked on the ride independent of us could ride but for 1 hour not 2. It was so humiliating. To be shouted at that I am too heavy for the national legal limit for pony trekking, that I was endangering the horse I was to ride and had ruined the other ladies ride was utterly devastating. So for £120 I was shouted at, told I was too heavy, and then spent an unhappy 40 minutes trekking. Surely if the national weight limit is 14 stone, when I sent my weight in as 14 stone, a quick e mail asking me to be 100% sure would have been good practice. I did receive further e mails but none informing me that my weight was at the legal limit.
A dreadful experience.

I went for an hour hack with my 6 year old and 4 year old today. It was an absolutely stunning ride and we had a fantastic time. The kids loved going down hills, through water and getting to trot their horses. It felt very safe at all times and we loved every minute of it. The horses are very well cared for and know their job. I couldn’t recommend this place any higher. I have been here once before for a half day hack which was incredible, but the hour was perfect for the kids.

I had such high hopes for a horseback ride in the highlands. I fought to have it included on our trip. It was the main thing I wanted to do to get out in nature in the highlands.

We arrived about half a hour early. Ian was rude right from the beginning! We started with we know we are a little early. Yes, yes you are and I am very busy so no talking. My sister wanted to ask if anyone else was going to ride with us. No even able to get out half the sentence he loudly said your talking not a word! No not a word!

We are from the states and are used to western riding so he gave a few instructions, but when I tried pulling back on the reins to stop my horse I was told not to do that. Just let her go she knows where to go.

I would have liked to have heard about the history of the land and the wildlife. A younger woman joined us on the ride. He talked pretty much none stop mostly to her. He spoke a lot about previous riders referring to them as the fat Pakistani woman or the Italian man that must have thought a lot of himself and seemed to be trying to impress his younger girlfriend. Then the best line……. The worse group to take out being the group behind him age 30-50 (we are all over 65) because they think they know how to ride. Don’t know if he didn’t realize we could hear him or that we were too stupid to know he was talking about us because of the age reference he chose. However the statement’ the group behind him’. Solidified the answer to that.

I tried to focus on the gorgeous scenery but it was hard to drown out all the talk.

In the end he tried to tell me how to dismount (which I have done numerous times) and he yanked my foot out of the stirrup. I should have kicked him in the face. I was completely disgusted by this point.

Just had the most amazing day with Highland trekking and trail riding. Despite the rain the views were spectacular, the ponies were delightful and clearly very happy and well cared for whilst Iain was a fantastic guide with a seemingly endless well of knowledge about local history, flora and fauna and ecological debates/rewilding projects. I really can't recommend enough and will definitely be back :)

Wow!
Sasha and Iain are friendly and funny.
As beginners they made us feel comfortable and at ease on our stunning friends for the day Angus and Huntley.

The trail ride was perfect! Breathtaking scenery and two eagles 🦅 spotted!

We would highly recommend this on your next highland adventure 😍 🐴

We had a great time! Highlight of our trip for our 11 year old daughter who adores horses. The trek itself was beautiful, views were amazing and the horses well behaved and very calm. It was a first ride for our group and we felt at ease the whole time. The lady who took us out was really nice, friendly and chatty. The horses seemed very calm and happy and we discussed the duration they're allowed to work. They have 20 horses in total so rotate often given them a rest etc which I thought was great. Location quite remote and we lost signal on the way there and back so I suggest to check the route beforehand just in case. We went past Plodda falls which was beautiful too. Definitely be back again for a longer trek in the future.

We had an amazing time today pony trekking with the kids. Ian and Sasha were great fun and the horses, Eric, Teasel and Twiggy, were perfect for the kids. The 1 hour trek was ideal, the scenery was stunning and the kids loved every minute. I can't recommend Highland Trekking and Trail Riding enough.

Amazing experience! We did the 2 hour trek which was well worth it. The ponies were very well behaved and Sasha was so knowledgeable about the area and the horses. I hadn’t rode for a few years but felt really comfortable. An unforgettable experience!
