We booked a last minute trekking experience directly over the phone for 3 children aged between 4 and 12 while on a holiday in the highlands. We are glad we did! We were greeted with friendliness and the guides interacted very well with the children and facilitated a fist class experience. The children felt confident and relaxed, even though it was the first time on a pony for the youngest. Out of all the days trips in the Highlands, the children were adamant that the Highland Trekking and Trail Riding was their favourite and we will certainly book again next trip! The adults enjoyed the scenery and the drive to the location (a very long track). Tip: don't use the post code on your navigation and follow the signs.

Me & my sister booked a full Day of riding - the both of us have almost no experience at all in riding horses, but Sasha made us feel safe and comfortable on the horse and the trail.

The place itself is breathtaking! One of the most gorgeous places I’ve ever visited. Travelling with a horse into that beautiful wild is an experience I highly recommend and THE highlight of our visit here in Scotland so far.

Sasha is sweet and very kind, she’s also an interesting person to have conversations with along the trail. Iain is also very kind and funny!

Thank you for having us and we’ll definitely be back here whenever we’re around!💕💕

A truly lovely place to go pony trekking. My daughter has been here on a few occasions over the years.
Sasha and Ian who own the place are so helpful and enthusiastic. They clearly love their horses and know them implicitly. My daughter tells me they very quickly sussed out what calibre of rider she was and encouraged and cajoled her. They are also full of great stories about the horses etc. It is a drive up from Tomich but totally worth it. Allow half hour from Cannich and get there 15 mins before and take in the scenery. We will definitely be back

My experience at The highland pony trekking was possibly the worse time I have ever had. The man Iain, was so aggressive, unpleasant, and intimidating.
I had been asked for my weight when booking and sent a rough estimate of 14 stone. It was wrong and I am heavier. He shouted because there is a legal limit of 14 stone and I was putting his horses in risk because of my weight. He said this happens every day and it is dangerous for his horses. When he stopped for breathe, I suggested that I forfeit the ride. He said no I could ride but myself, my son and another lady booked on the ride independent of us could ride but for 1 hour not 2. It was so humiliating. To be shouted at that I am too heavy for the national legal limit for pony trekking, that I was endangering the horse I was to ride and had ruined the other ladies ride was utterly devastating. So for £120 I was shouted at, told I was too heavy, and then spent an unhappy 40 minutes trekking. Surely if the national weight limit is 14 stone, when I sent my weight in as 14 stone, a quick e mail asking me to be 100% sure would have been good practice. I did receive further e mails but none informing me that my weight was at the legal limit.
A dreadful experience.

I went for an hour hack with my 6 year old and 4 year old today. It was an absolutely stunning ride and we had a fantastic time. The kids loved going down hills, through water and getting to trot their horses. It felt very safe at all times and we loved every minute of it. The horses are very well cared for and know their job. I couldn’t recommend this place any higher. I have been here once before for a half day hack which was incredible, but the hour was perfect for the kids.

Wow!
Sasha and Iain are friendly and funny.
As beginners they made us feel comfortable and at ease on our stunning friends for the day Angus and Huntley.

The trail ride was perfect! Breathtaking scenery and two eagles 🦅 spotted!

We would highly recommend this on your next highland adventure 😍 🐴

We had a great time! Highlight of our trip for our 11 year old daughter who adores horses. The trek itself was beautiful, views were amazing and the horses well behaved and very calm. It was a first ride for our group and we felt at ease the whole time. The lady who took us out was really nice, friendly and chatty. The horses seemed very calm and happy and we discussed the duration they're allowed to work. They have 20 horses in total so rotate often given them a rest etc which I thought was great. Location quite remote and we lost signal on the way there and back so I suggest to check the route beforehand just in case. We went past Plodda falls which was beautiful too. Definitely be back again for a longer trek in the future.

Just had the most amazing day with Highland trekking and trail riding. Despite the rain the views were spectacular, the ponies were delightful and clearly very happy and well cared for whilst Iain was a fantastic guide with a seemingly endless well of knowledge about local history, flora and fauna and ecological debates/rewilding projects. I really can't recommend enough and will definitely be back :)

We had an amazing time today pony trekking with the kids. Ian and Sasha were great fun and the horses, Eric, Teasel and Twiggy, were perfect for the kids. The 1 hour trek was ideal, the scenery was stunning and the kids loved every minute. I can't recommend Highland Trekking and Trail Riding enough.

Amazing experience! We did the 2 hour trek which was well worth it. The ponies were very well behaved and Sasha was so knowledgeable about the area and the horses. I hadn’t rode for a few years but felt really comfortable. An unforgettable experience!
