We are so pleased with our experience with Susan and Don at Red Hook Dive Center. First, we rented tanks, racks, and weights for a week-long catamaran charter. They were prompt with delivery and pickup, and the prices were the best on the island. Their cylinder racks work really well. We brought the tanks in for a refill and Susan was super fast with that. We dove Grass Cay (good) and Whistling Cay (not as good), but if I had it to do over I would schedule rendezvous dives instead.
Now we are on land for a few weeks and have done four dives from their boat, Fools Gold. Don was great about explaining safety, and is also a humorous and caring host. They also take Covid-19 precautions seriously by limiting the number of divers and asking for compliance with masking regulations that are required by the USVI government. They have a bucket for cameras but have a fresh water hose for other needs.
Our first trip was to Calf and then Cow Rocks. The diving was great, with Joel pointing out some of the more elusive creatures like spotted drum, lobsters, eels, and a spotted eagle ray. The water was reasonably clear. Cow Rock has some excellent geology with fun swim-throughs too. They served fruit and delicious homemade zucchini bread during the surface interval, and took care of the setup and breakdown even though we brought our own gear.
Our second dives were a few days later at The Stragglers. We had the same excellent boat experience. Addie led the dives and was great about keeping track of everyone. She found a scorpionfish!, along with lobster, crabs, shrimp, and eels. This dive had lots of yellow jawfish, puffers, a spotted drum, and a large porcupinefish, along with all of the typical tropical reef fish.
We highly recommend Red Hook Dive. Susan and Don are the BEST. We've already scheduled our next two dives 😊

A friend and I did a referral open water certification here. Andre provides excellent training and a good time. I would recommend this shop. On top of that their referral price was very reasonable compared to other usvi dive shops.

We used RH for rendezvous diving off our catamaran as well as from Red Hook Harbor. Don and his crew know the area well and run a safe operation. We dove with Divemaster Aaron throughout our trip and saw a lot and he knew the reefs well. We also selected them initially as they were the only ones that could assure us that we would have Nitrox available, which they did. Although sometimes we had to repeat dive sites due to weather, they did try to get us to as many new sites as possible. Susan and Don were were very helpful in planning phase and were flexible when we did not know exactly which days we would dive from the catamaran.

You need to book early we had 3 days of diving scheduled up the road where we were staying and all 3 got called off so we were left scrambling to get some diving in. I called Red Hook and they had just had a cancellation and got us on the boat for the next day. Unfortunately that was all they could do. The boat was very nice, the tanks were full, and the captain gave a good briefing before we left the dock. Our guide kept a eye on the 6 of us and monitored air consumption as well. We got some pretty long dives of 48 minutes at a max. depth of 37 feet & 52 minutes at 41 feet. We dove the Stragglers and Cal Rock. Note - call the shop the day before you dive to find out where to park They are in the marina behind some shops across the street from Duffys Love Shack. You need to buy a parking pass (at a discount) from them tp put on your car. If I ever get back this way again I will look them up again. Thanks Everyone!

Captain/Instructor Don is excellent. We are a family of 4 advanced open water divers and really sought out a boutique dive shop, far away from the cruise ships. Our son was recovering from a flu and Don patiently descended down the line with him so that he could equalize his ears and enjoy 2 successful dives. Don takes his time to brief the group about the dive site and what especially to look out for. He points out interesting sea creatures and then tells stories about them once back on the boat during debrief. I highly recommend this team. Susan runs the dive shop and makes sure to send fruit and her yummy home-made cakes for the divers to enjoy between dives. I hope you get to taste her zucchini bread!
In short, TOP QUALITY dive shop!!!

We rented two sets of snorkel gear for the week while we were visiting St Thomas and St John. We had very good customer service and they helped fit us properly with our gear. Their gear seemed brand new and of high quality. We were able to compare their gear to other gear and it worked better and was more comfortable and reliable. Their prices were reasonable and we will definitely rent from them again.

I have over 400 dives over the last 20 years and Red Hook Divers is one of the best operations around. Very professional, focused on providing the best dives possible, appropriate levels of safety (usual + COVID19) with recreational fun. Great dive sites here in St. Thomas — very understated and very pleasantly surprised.

Don and Susan hooked us up today with a nice dive package. Don skipper’d us out to Cow and Calf Rock. Aaron guided us on both dives and was able to point out exquisite coral and and abundance of fish life. It literally felt like diving in an aquarium. Incredible dive with incredible folks. If you’re in St. Thomas please pay Red Hook a visit and experience this outstanding dive experience.

My family and I went discover scuba diving with Red Hook Dive center while on vacation. This was my second experience scuba diving, and I was pretty nervous. The divers were professional, took their time teaching us everything we needed to know to be prepared. Scott was so helpful, I was so scared and he swam next to me the whole time to help me if I needed it. I felt safe and really enjoyed my experience diving this time. After this experience I can’t wait to go again. We got to see so many different fish, and we went to two different parts of the island. Scott explained to us that at one point we were in the Caribbean, and another part we were in the Atlantic! Aaron, the other diver gave such a detailed description of what we would experience before we went under , and everything went so smoothly. The captain driving the boat, Andrew was awesome as well. My mother in law couldn’t dive so she sat on the boat with Andrew and he talked to her about the great parts of St. Thomas to go to for the best food and fun. Thank you Scott for swimming next to me the whole time!!! I’m no longer scared to scuba dive!!! I will definitely come back the next time I’m in St. Thomas!!! Thank you guys!!

My husband and I have dove St. Thomas 4 times and would never dive with anyone else. They are very professional and go to the extreme to make you feel comfortable and safe. Whether you are a beginner or have hundreds of dives - the team makes you feel important and sincerely wants you to have a great dive experience.

Do you accommodate cruise ship passengers?
We are a party of 4 certified adult divers, arriving in St. Thomas on 1/26 and would like to dive with you.
Thank you!

What is the closest hotel? Are there specific hotels where you offer pick up and drop off?
Written September 6, 2016
Thank you for your question! We are located in American Yacht Harbor in the heart of Red Hook and are surrounded by many resorts and independent Air B&B and VRBO rentals, so you're bound to find something close that fits your needs. We agree with the previous post that some resorts offer shuttle service easily to and from Red Hook, but there are also numerous taxi services that will arrange pick-ups and drop-offs. Give us a call at the shop if you need any more info!

How is the snorkeling vs diving - will we still have lots to see? Is there a price difference if you are just "along for the ride" bringing your own snorkel equipment?
Written April 2, 2015
St. Thomas has beautiful snorkeling and diving and we would love for you to join us! We also have a Discover Scuba Diving experience if you're interested. For ride along/snorkelers, it's $59 for our morning excursion. Give us a call for more info!

We have people in our party that do not wish to dive but would love to snorkel from the boat while we dive, is that a possibility? Thanks.
Written December 28, 2014
Yes, we will take snorkelers/riders on a space available basis. They must be 16 years of age or older or accompanied by a parent at all times.
